Real Name - Jim Rudge (now there's a surprise!)
Nationality - Scottish
Home Town - Originally Glasgow, now Chippenham, Wiltshire, England.
When/how did you first hear ABB - 1970 - Black Hearted Woman was on a sampler LP called Age of Atlantic. Not immediately impressed, but all life changed when I heard Fillmore East the next year.

ABBDutchFan - 9/26/2006 at 06:06 PM

Real Name - Roger Lustermans
Nationality - Dutch
Home Town - Maastricht, Netherlands

When/how did you first hear ABB - In the late seventies i heard my older brother play
LAFE. I was into punkrock at the time but still was impressed by IMOER and WP.
A few years later (about the time the genre was declared dead) i started to focus on bluesy hardrock and southern rock. I bought B&S and taped (cassette) my brother's LAFE LP and played it over and over again while being in the army (draft). I really became a fan when the dreams boxset was released and the new material (Seven Turns) blew me away. Best reunion ever !!!

Seen ABB? - Cologne Germany, 4th of july 1991. Still my all time favorite concert!

Seen Family bands:
GM - 5 times
DTB - 2 times
STB - 4 times

Zeka, good to hear that you too are planning for Beacon bro, hope all goes well for both of us. A EuroPeach party would be fun. Roger, you got to make it too brother, though I don't know if we can find any Mythos in NY.

Dear bro Danis, we have to thinking about our tour to USA (NY, Beacon)! It will be nice to drink beer (maybe we'll find Mythos) together again, but this time in USA!!!

Nationality -Swedish

Hometown - Vänersborg, since 1990 living in Malmö.

First heard ABB - A friend of mine gave me his vinyl LAFE sometime in the early eighties, hooked ever since. The reason for giving it to me was that he couldn't concentrate on working on his paintings (he's a very good artist) and listening to it at the same time, he always ended up lying in his sofa listening instead of painting...

Seen ABB- Not yet.... but seriously trying to get
enough money for Beacon 07

A wee bump in case anyone's missed this - Calling Alans and hippy69?? Anyone seen heard from Barry(hippy69) recently? Haven't seen him on here for ages.

BrotherofBeauty - 11/21/2006 at 11:58 AM

Hi there, here's another Dutchman reporting for duty.
My name is Peter and I live 50-50 in Holland and Sweden. www.petervankan.com tells the rest, in case you want to know more.
First heard the ABB in 1973 when I was 17; a friend had EAP and at that same time I saw that Duane played on Layla, which I had just gotten for my birthday. Duane has been an angel and teacher in my life ever since.
I saw the ABB in 1974 at an outdoor festival in Holland; I believe it's the only time they were here.

ABBDutchFan - 11/22/2006 at 06:16 PM

Hello Peter,

Welcome to the forum!
I'm from Maastricht down south; nice to see another fellow countryman here!

That outdoor festival (with the Doobie Brothers) was the firs time they played in the Netherlands. They returned in 1980 for a show in The Hague and haven't returned ever since. I haven't seen them at these two shows. They returned in 1991 for a European tour but skipped the Netherlands. I saw them in Cologne, Germany on the 4th of july of 1991. Still my all time favorite concert.
Gregg and Dickey never played here with any of their solo bands.
Prior to the Gov't Mule shows in 2005 and 2006 Warren Haynes only played here as a member of outlaw country artist David Allan Coe's band.
Derek Trucks played 3 fantastic shows last year with his band as part of the Dutch
"Steelin' 'n' Slidin'" project.

Keep Rockin'

Biertje?

Roger

harvey - 11/22/2006 at 11:44 PM

To echo what Roger has already said . . . welcome Peter

like you, I first saw the ABB in 1974 . . . in my case at Knebworth in the UK . . . and then (like Roger) my next time was in 1991 but at the Hammersmith Odeon in London . . . an excellent show that I have a recording of, let me know if you would like a copy and I will gladly send it to you!

ZekovicZoran - 11/23/2006 at 09:56 AM

Dear bro Colin, you are the greatest!
You are like The Great Mum: My dear kids, do you want some ABB CDs? Ha-ha!
Best wishes to you and to all worldwide S&B!
Love!
Zeka

Greg13 - 12/14/2006 at 05:35 PM

Real Name - Grégory Svitouxhkoff

Nationality - French

Home Town - Paris, but now Vannes (Britany)

When/how did you first hear ABB - In 1996, after reading a great book on Harleys and its cultural environment. ABB was named in that book so I decided I should buy a record, so I bought "Eat a Peach", and I as you can see I wasn't disapointed. Also love Lynyrd Skynyrd, Bruce Springsteen...

Never seen them on stage.

See ya...

Hi Jim

I don't usually look at this forum, but I'm still around and waiting feverishly for THE ANNOUNCEMENT. I hope to see all the friends I've made at past shows and to make many others in March in NYC

harvey - 11/30/2007 at 08:40 AM

Devon Allman in London next week guys

keif - 1/14/2008 at 09:55 AM

Howdy.

I'm a newbie here. Names Keith and I hail from Dublin.

Have yet to see the ABB live but may head to NY this year as the run coincides with my wedding anniversary. Just have to get around the wife first.

Hopefully the promise of a trip to NY might negate any negative vibes about dragging her to a gig when we get there.

harvey - 1/16/2008 at 02:14 PM

Welcome aboard Keith

I have to give NYC a miss this year unfortunately ... but I plan to be back over there in 2009 for the 40th anniversary

This year is a good year for you to take the wife to NYC with the gigs being in May for a change ... NYC is much nicer in the spring than it is in March ... all the best.

Thanks for the welcome.

NYC is lovely in May. Me & the wife went there on our honeymoon and that was in May.

Still working on getting her to agree to the trip. May have to persuade the sis in law to come so she can keep her company whilst I head to any gigs I might acquire tickets for.

port63 - 2/6/2008 at 05:48 PM

Hello
I joined today
My name is ian
I'm from Wolverhampton in England
The first song i heard was JESSICA which is used on the TV show Top Gear,i've heard a lot of the better know songs by the band but have only really got into the band over the last 5/6 years.
I don't think the UK has given the band the airplay that they have deserved over the years and that's probably why it took so long to get into the band.
Unfortunately i've never seen the band, the best chance i had was in 2004 when i was in NY on my 20th wedding anniversary but i couldn't get my wife to go to a show.
However i've seen Gov't Mule 5 times out of the 6 they've played in the UK.
Favorite song at the moment is an oldie " BLUE SKY "

harvey - 2/7/2008 at 08:08 AM

Welcome Ian ... most of the brits that have posted to this thread are still current members, and a lot of us meet up for a few pre-show beers when Mule / dTb etc come over here ... usually at the London gigs however.

port63 - 2/7/2008 at 05:19 PM

Hello Harvey
Thanks for the welcome
On the mule's first gig in London i met a couple of Allman Brothers fans from Iceland
(i think )
My next gig is in London,i'm going to see Neil Young on the 8th & 9th of March

harvey - 2/7/2008 at 05:36 PM

I'm going to see Neil too, but on Thursday 6th March.

I haven't been to a gig since 7th December last year when Devon Allman was in London, but I have a few about to come up ... just like London Buses they seem to all come at once ...

Fri 15th Feb = Joe Bonamassa @ Shepherds Bush Empire
Thur 6th Mar = Neil Young @ Hammersmith Apollo
Thur 20th Mar = Eagles @ O2 Arena
Fri 28th Mar = Chris Rea @ Royal Albert Hall
Tuesday 15th April = Australian Pink Floyd @ Royal Albert Hall
Fri 23rd May = Robin Trower @ Mean Fiddler

port63 - 2/7/2008 at 05:52 PM

my last gig was Gov't Mule in London last year.i can't believe i haven't seen anyone since then.I work nights so i have to miss a lot of bands.
Do you know that they have have a rust fest before and after the Neil Young shows.
check out this link

http://launch.groups.yahoo.com/group/neilhammersmith2008/

harvey - 2/7/2008 at 08:54 PM

Thanks for the link, but unfortunately on this occasion, as my gig is on a Thursday night and I have to work Thursday afternoon and Friday morning, I will be driving into London after work and home again straight afterwards so won't have any time to join in the festivities.

By the way, do you have a copy of the Mule show from last year? If not, send me a PM with your home address and I'll send you a copy.

Cheers,
Colin.

port63 - 2/8/2008 at 04:54 PM

Yes i have the show but it's on my computer and it's,kinda blown up a little.
I'm using my daughters laptop at the moment
Thanks.

What do you think? I've joined myself

irishmike - 3/12/2009 at 01:24 PM

Real Name : Michael Curran

from : Ireland

Was just over in NY at the first of the Beacon shows. That was the first time I saw ABB, saw Warren with the Mule in London a couple of years ago, and will be over to see Derek play the Empire in April.
The first of the Beacon run was immense, the guests changing the mood significantly, Taj Mahal burning up the Beacon, and then Levon Helm, Larry Campbell et al giving it plenty in the second half of the show. Was very impressed by Butch, still going strong and the interplay between Warren and Derek seems to be moving to a new level. I saw Gregg leave the Beacon afterwards and he looked amazing, really lean and fit.
Derek came out with susan and signed quite a few autographs with grace and no little patience, as did Warren.
All in all an amazing start to the season...I am already saving up for next year.
The europeans were well represented at the Beacon too with Irish, spanish and UK brethren present. See y'all in Shepherds Bush 26th april I hope

irishmike.....

harvey - 3/12/2009 at 07:14 PM

When gigs are at the Shepherds Bush Empire, we normally meet up in O'Neill's Bar on the corner next to the venue ... so pop your head in there and spot the appropriate T shirts (Allmans / dTb / Mule) and it will probably be some of us

At that time it seemed to be impossible to play bass like that, but now it's one of my favorite songs to play.
Seen ABB? - No, just looking to go to the Beacon

Since then I've played in numerous bands, but at home I play a lot ABB on bass. And last weekend I finished my tribute to my hero Berry Oakley: I've build a Tractor!
