Thread: Reconciliation

JoJoDancer - 5/20/2002 at 09:10 PM

Hey Butch - I am going to ask a question that, if it is inappropriate in your opinion, I apologize in advance.

If everyone could work out their own problems, whatever they are, and could be kind to each other, could the ABB and Dickey ever play together again?

I understand that could be a stretch, but I can wonder and hope.

Butch Trucks - 5/22/2002 at 08:48 PM

Nothin's impossible. I'm afraid that the way things stand right now that it is highly improbable.

tattooneil - 5/22/2002 at 09:00 PM

Nice to hear that there are possibilities though.

gina - 5/22/2002 at 11:47 PM

Thanks Butch, many of us believed YOU were the holdout in reconciliation, but you are decent, let us all hope "everything is fine and cured by time".....

JoJoDancer - 5/23/2002 at 01:08 AM

Appreciate the response Butch.

I don't know if you noticed the thread I started in Anything Goes a few weeks ago, but I taught my 2 year old daughter all your names based on the picture up top, and she calls you "Buts". It's really cute.

Hope the improbable comes true.

JoJoDancer - 5/23/2002 at 03:46 AM

BTW Butch - Gina many think so, but I, and I am sure most of us, knew and still know that you are most certainly not the "holdout" as she puts it.

We all just wanted exactly what you gave us - the truth with a bit of hope. Now we can stop discussing it, enjoy the music, and wait for the improbable to come true.

Thanks again for responding to my thread.

gina - 5/23/2002 at 11:06 PM

Chris, I have NOT accused Butch of being the holdout in reconciliation and I have come to have a profound respect for him due to all that came out during Crisis in the Peach Patch (aka Dickey being ousted). He was honest, answered people even though he was berated quite a bit by many including me. He has a lot of integrity and should be admired for that. Even now, he still hasn't closed the door.

JoJoDancer - 5/24/2002 at 02:31 AM

Gina -

Wasn't sure how to interpret your post - It seemed that that was what you meant - that Butch was the hold out - b/c when you say many of us believed, it usually includes yourself.

Of course if that isn't what you meant, I take you at your word. But it seems that if you meant to refer to others, you could have said many other people thought, or many on the site thought, not many of us - using us connotes inclusion of the author.

ffisher - 5/24/2002 at 01:53 PM

Even if they don't get back together as far as the band is concerned, I just hope that the squabbling from 2 years ago doesn't tarnish their "lifelong" friendships and accomplishments, like divorcees getting along for the sake of the kids.
Though I haven't seen them since their last show with Dickey at Music Midtown (because I don't live in a touring stop any longer), what I've heard of the current stuff is as good as anything since before I was born.

Marley - 5/24/2002 at 01:54 PM

I hope you get to see them this summer -- they're coming to north Florida and some other places that should be at least somewhat close to you. By the band's account, you're certainly right.

Marley - 5/24/2002 at 02:41 PM

That's a good question that I can't answer. Could be the state of the theater, could be that they don't draw much there...ok, that one's a little hard to buy. But there are a lot of variables, and as I said, I couldn't begin to speculate on which one (or ones) it is.

TimHudson - 5/24/2002 at 03:08 PM

I'm gonna let the music talk here, I'm offering 12-29-91 Macon Coliseum to all of Ya on this thread. Just listen, remember the past, and hope for the future. Never Say Never!
Thanks Butch!

Hmmm -- looks like a gremlin has come along and erased posts from this thread too.

onewayout - 5/24/2002 at 06:12 PM

No erasure, that's all I left was a smiley.

Stephen - 5/24/2002 at 06:24 PM

Yeah I see that bro, Marley and I had posts near the top of the page -- Marley's was "Oh brother" I believe -- that aren't there anymore. No prob.

gina - 5/30/2002 at 12:22 AM

Reply to JoJo, when it all began people were blaming Butch because Gregg wasn't talking, then the whole thing came out. Butch seemed happy Dickey was gone by comments such as "maybe if you'd been where I have sat at all these years you'd feel differently about it" in one of the posts. As I said Butch has been honest re his own disappointment and disgust. All I will say now is that Aug. 10th Dickey is in PA, that weekend ABB is in CT. It could happen. Nuff said.[Edited on 6/10/2002 by gina]

Marley - 5/30/2002 at 12:46 AM

My "oh brother" post is actually somewhere else, I just saw it...hard to keep track of my other 666 posts (not counting this one). Anyway, while I'm thrilled if the bad blood content has decreased, Gina, I think you should keep in mind that Butch did say "highly improbable-" when you're using phrases like "nothing's impossible," you're acknowledging how unlikely something really is. Anyway- where is Dickey in PA? The distance between there and CT can be very large.

Stephen - 5/30/2002 at 05:52 PM

Shoot, I see that in Dickey's forum -- mea culpa bro

Marley - 5/30/2002 at 06:08 PM

It's ok- confused the hell out of me, too; I thought it had disappeared. No biggie.

Bobo - 6/4/2002 at 05:07 PM

I'm very leery about posting in this area, but will throw in my 2 cents - I take no sides because I don't know the facts - I do know that I will continue to see both Dickey and the Brothers whenever I can. I also will not stop hoping that things can someday be worked out!
The Allman Brothers remain the only band I have ever seen where the whole was TRULY greater than the sum of the parts!
Peace - Bob O

JoJoDancer - 6/6/2002 at 03:49 PM

Bobo says it all.

OldDirtRoad - 6/6/2002 at 03:59 PM

Amen to that Bobo......

I like em hard feelings towards anyone....sure it hurts to see it happen....together to long not too...but I don't ask no questions....I show my support for all of them...especially the young one...he's filling big shoes...and doing a damn good job at it...doing it his way...and sounding great......if they ever meet up and play will be a bonus for us all..if not...remember the good times...they have been plenty of them.

I love those guys.............

gina - 6/10/2002 at 11:14 PM

I do not remember in my reply saying antics and ego, as that is not how I would describe Dickey or the situation. I really don't appreciate my words being changed by the editors thank you very much.

Marley - 6/11/2002 at 07:56 AM

gina - 6/12/2002 at 11:31 PM

The way is was edited someone put in a comment about Dickey's ego insinuating that I thought he had an ego problem, I would not say such a thing about him. So it pisssssssed me off.

Marley - 6/13/2002 at 04:12 AM

Yes, but I keep reading and re-reading and can't find the post that you're talking about.

gina - 7/30/2002 at 11:58 PM

Just want to reiterate reconciliation should be on everyone's mind, because we may end up being nuked by Iraq, when we attack them, and we will. I put it in terrorism updates and I'll put it here too,,2763,764197.00 htm. We've had people at one of their air bases training since March, and it's going down one more time. Estimates are that once they start closing in on Sadaam, they will have 48 hrs before he launches nuclear or biological weapons. SOmetimes we think we have all the time in the world, and sometimes we are wrong. Like Gregg said in his song, Silence Ain't Golden Anymore,"when it gets too late, you ask the reason why"...

Marley - 7/31/2002 at 04:18 AM

Gina, my advice would be to relax a bit. Even if Saddam has nukes [and I don't think he does anyway], the guys will do what they want on their own time. In any case, they shouldn't get back together just because they're worried about getting nuked.

Quinn - 7/31/2002 at 01:15 PM

If they are ment to get back together it will happen, but you have to relize it might not and go on from there. Peace

gina - 8/3/2002 at 04:13 PM

The point is most people like to fix their estrangements and reconcile before they die, so they can go in peace knowing they have done the best they can. Letting Butch and everyone know this thing with Iraq is gonna get real ugly real fast, is a wake up call, I mean if you knew you were gonna be dead in a couple of months wouldn't there be some things you'd want to straighten out before it happens?

gina - 8/3/2002 at 04:16 PM

Additionally, in the last few days I read that Iran feared we would attack them and they outright said they are ready for us, and Osama has people there ready to rock and roll. There is even concern for the stability of Saudi Arabia (most the fighters in Afghanistan who are not Afghans are Arabs from Al Qaida) see the London paper the Observer, observer/waronterrorism/story/0,1373,764615,00.html. If they do fall under the power/reign of Al Qaida they can launch nukes from the gulf. The whole middle east is unstable. That is one of my points. THe second is people should fix their differences before they die and with the way it all is going on, we may not have years to do that.

Marley - 8/3/2002 at 06:57 PM

Is this what it looks like if terrorists succeed?

Bobo - 8/5/2002 at 02:03 PM

Isn't this just music??

gina - 8/5/2002 at 03:31 PM

Bobo, those missiles make a sort of music as they fly overhead. You can hear 'em sing right before they hit their target didn't you watch Crisis in the Gulf, the news real life soap opera drama series?

gina - 8/5/2002 at 03:38 PM

Reply to old time fan, I know most people here feel that it is all too far away to effect us directly but I have an intuitive sense of foreboding that isn't going away. I also have read that the US is going to be the recipient of new Al Qaida attacks in August which doesn't help because it is all tied in together. Each country is like one battle but the war wages on. Most people think it is somewhat copasetic in Afghanistan now, it isn't Norway and Denmark sent F16's there to continue heavy bombing, that entire side of the world is in conflict and most of those countries do not like the US, it only takes an instigator (and Osama is a provacateur) to unite them against us and that's what has been going on surreptiously. Most people don't know there was a lot of divisiveness between Osama and the Taliban yet events occurred that sealed their alliance (read, it can happen on a larger scale with all those other countries against us.

phillybob - 8/6/2002 at 12:04 AM

Ohhhhh My Im scared now Gina, been retired a few years from the service guess I better go out and run a few laps around the track.

gina - 8/7/2002 at 11:27 PM

Gina, you really need to get someplace safe and spend the rest of your life there. There have been nuclear threats against this country sine the end of WW2. And life goes on. Iraq has no nuclear delivery system, so we are not going to die in a nulear war with Iraq. Your fixation on all of this is getting a lttle weird. Relax a little. You have been beaten by the terrorists.

Uh old time fan, Iran wants to shoot our planes down if we attack Iraq (,6903,769043,00.html). More than just one country will get involved WHEN we attack Iraq and it is coming down the pipe from all the international reports I have read.

gina - 8/7/2002 at 11:30 PM

Ohhhhh My Im scared now Gina, been retired a few years from the service guess I better go out and run a few laps around the track.

I hope you're not being sarcastic, but all of the people who laugh at me will see the middle east situation escalate, and I don't think it will be the way it was last time for many reasons, but I don't want to turn this into terrorism prophecies. I just think the band should try to reconcile before the sh*t hits the fan, or them antiballistic missles with a range of 800 miles get launched.
