Thread: Dan's Days With Gregg

bluesboy57 - 1/26/2007 at 03:20 AM

I recently purchased "No Stranger to the Dark: The Best of Gregg Allman". Although I had most of the songs on other CDs, the price was right and I wanted this compilation for my car.

Dan played on most the songs. His soloing is very tasteful and accomplished. I sure wish he wasn't so overlooked, because he is absolutely one of the best, most versatile players around.

Go Dan!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Fully agreed -- whether w/DB & GS in the 1970s & 1990s or Gregg in the 1980s, this is one talented, fiery player -- and that includes on the three ABB albums of 1979-81. His solo on Pegasus is one of the best in the ABB repertoire IMO.
On the flip side it's kind of too bad IMO that the three years he & Rook were in the ABB get as dissed as they do -- have never fully understood it. Was also kinda sad to see his second tenure in GS come to the acrimonious end it did. Oh well.
Rock on Dangerous Dan.

Thought he was great with GA in the 80's. Tasty. Kind of lost me when he went to the strat in later years. Also, live he tends to play fast for the sake of fast at times. Speed kills

Very underrated player. Very tasteful and balanced solos.

A true gentleman and one of the nicest guys I have ever met ...and he does have as even DB said a very unique touch with a whammy on a strat ...Les Pauls are not know for that ...Dan has always strived to pave his own way ...DB definitely needs him back in the band ...last time I heard him without him was not the same at all ....IMHO
