Thread: Derek & susan presale tix -- highline 4/13

northernman - 2/23/2011 at 06:02 PM

I got mine at noon today for the highline ballroom and they are already sold out. it is a small room, (holds about 700).

there is a second presale for those of you who missed out. it takes place in 2 days 2/25 @ noon

http://www.ticketweb.com/t3/sale/SaleEventDetail?dispatch=loadSelectionData &eventId=3517425&REFID=targ

password = "GUITAR"

got an email from the BB King's club in NYC

good luck and see you at the highline

Alwar - 2/23/2011 at 06:46 PM

I got mine at noon also.
I was surprised that the only ticket option was "will call" for this presale.

Anybody else going to this?

hedges - 2/23/2011 at 06:56 PM

I am in for this as well and was also dissapointed to see the will call only option. maybe it is to discourage scalping

northernman - 2/23/2011 at 07:40 PM

I don't have a problem with will call and think it is a good thing and it saves us a minimum shipping fee of $6.50 for USPS priority/delivery conf, to $10 for Fedex.

I think it is a small inconvenience to not have to pay this added fee and I think Derek is helping to keep ticket costs down.

What do you think these $45 tix will be on TM.com? Probably a $13 fee per ticket plus a per order charge of up to $5 or $60 a ticket which is @ $10 more a ticket than we paid.

Alwar - 2/23/2011 at 08:04 PM

You make a good point about service fees but I think will call should be one option.
Print at home tickets these days are also a good option.

Not that I care, but I was told that this venue will have a limited amount of seating on a first come first served basis.
That is even though it is General Admission.
When I called the venue, I was told that we will not be able to pick up "will call" tickets until the doors open on the evening of the show.

So this potentially means to me that if I was looking to sit down in a primo spot, but I have to stop at a "will call" window when they open the doors, more than likely the scarce seating could become non-existent at that point.

northernman - 2/23/2011 at 08:37 PM

alwar, the floor is GA and there are some tables upstairs all around 3/4 of the venue. FYI. Also I think if you get there early you should get a table if you want to sit.

the place only holds 700. i do agree that other mailing options would have been nice. As far as I know, musictoday does not offer print-at-home.

should be an interesting experience for us all.

i don't understand why they are opening the doors 2.5 hours before the show unlike some of the other venues. maybe the will call has something to do with it but i suppose he did that with other venues as well.

good luck and enjoy the show!

Alwar - 2/23/2011 at 09:13 PM

It's all good northernman. Thanks for the info on the seating. It the tables are upstairs, then it doesn't concern me at all.
I'm an Orchestra guy and I like to be up front.
There will be plenty of time to sit on the train ride home.
I'm looking forward to the Beacon shows/parties and then this one the month after!

DerekAndSusanBand - 2/23/2011 at 09:16 PM

In this case, since it's such a small theatre, we wanted to make sure that the people who buy tickets are the same ones who end up using the tickets. That's why it's all will call. The upside is that fans won't have to pay a premium to go through scalpers and brokers to get tickets. The downside is that there will probably be a long line at the door to get in, but we'll work to make sure everyone gets in as quickly as possible. It's a trade-off but in this case we do feel that will call is the best way to serve fans.

northernman - 2/23/2011 at 09:41 PM

hey derekandsusanband, thanks for your post! we are all looking forward to this special show in such a small venue!

thanks for coming back to NYC!

waiting at will call is a small price to pay to make sure the fans get the tickets. I am happy to wait. i will take this anytime over having the tickets end up in scalpers hands.

thanks again!

It's worth waiting in line to deter scalpers and brokers.

We'll see you guys there!

bandobrocks - 2/26/2011 at 04:19 PM

It may possible that the Highline is having a table service set-up? We saw the Jimmy Herring Band there and it was GA and then first come first serve on the table you got (quick side note...JHB absolutely killed it..unreal!). Depending when you got there some were having full dinner there and others just drinks. There was a minimum per table (or group) but it wasn't anything to bad.

On the other side we saw DTB there as well and it was just a GA regular set up with no table or dinner service.

Does anybody know anything more about this?

It is a cool venue and such a sweet spot in NYC. If you get there early there is the Chelsea Market to check out as well the actual Highline to walk around on! Really pumped to see DSB there!

northernman - 2/28/2011 at 01:27 PM

it will be GA floor and tables upstairs. according to the www.highlineballroom.com website, there is limited seating available (upstairs) and also VIP table seating if you buy a table of 2,4,6 during the public TM.com onsale for $60 a ticket.

That will diminish the number of tables available to the general public. My guess would be those tables would be in the back with full on view as opposed to the sides. I am going with 3 friends and my friend is handicapped and wheelchair bound and we hope to get a table so he can see.

good luck to all and see you there for what will be a very special show in a great venue!
peace,
ray

Try contacting the venue in advance and they should be able to accommodate you and your friend.

Alwar - 3/1/2011 at 02:10 PM

The Highline ballroom website now indicates that this puppy is Sold Out.

I'm glad I have my ticket now.

ps i just talked to someone at the venue and gave him my name and told him my situation and he said they will accomodate us and asked me to arrive before doors as early as possible and to call the day of the show and upon arrival.

Thanks for your help and suggestion!!

Derek and Susan playing a show in the city on my birthday seemed too good to be true...

And, indeed, it was. Locked out of the pre-sale and TIX going on sale today at noon was some kind of sick joke because come 12 PM the page just updated to say 'Sold Out'.

This is a sad, sad day.

cack00 -- sorry you missed my original post with a second presale 2 days later with a PW. I also saw that at 12:08pm it was sold out so there were never any tix available from the venue. sorry you couldn't get tix for your birthday. hope you are catching ABB at the Beacon!
peace,
Ray

Or if you are poor like me, you could go to Soulive's Bowlive at the Brooklyn Bowl March 10-12 and pray that Derek shows up with Kofi and Oteil.

Soulive with Kofi and Oteil sounds awesome. I hope I can make it one of the nights. Thanks for the heads up! As for the Derek and Susan show, I'm hoping for a birthday miracle!

jberg72 - 3/13/2011 at 07:19 PM

Hey fine folks! My brother-in-law snoozed on getting tickets to this show (it was his turn to buy)......if anyone has an extra pair, I'd appreciate the consideration. I guess this is will call only, so we'd meet you there. First drink on me. Thanks.

I just got off the phone with the highline again and they said everything upstairs has been sold as VIP. we will have to be downstairs with all the standing but that we are going to get there at 5 and hopefully they will at least accomodate my handicapped friend and let him in first so he can get to the front which is the only place he can see...thanks for your help...

Most venues are pretty good about accommodating people in chairs. You should be able to talk to a manager in advance to see how they will help, rather than waiting until the day of the show, and hoping for the best. And if they don't accommodate him, they are in violation of ADA laws, a very serious offense.

absnj knows the rules & knows just how to enforce them

northernman - 4/13/2011 at 12:27 PM

absnj and dadof2.

in my post i said i had just talked to the highline about accomodating my friend and they said get there early and maybe yes maybe no. i know the ADA laws and will make sure at least my friend gets in first.

thanks for your comments. i think the guy on the phone was pretty rude yesterday and i didn't appreciate it. i am just looking out for my friend as i always do!

i think the highline is just stressed about the show and is overwhelmed with the will call thing --- the guy on the phone said its going to be "crazy". they have never had a show like this to be sure.

enjoy the show those of you who got tix!!
peace,
ray
