Thread: Dickey at the Beacon? Dickey says

Efus - 3/14/2009 at 02:20 PM

Got this from a brother who's more insane about music than I am, and he's never thrown me bad info before, so here goes for what its worth, do with it what you want......

one other thing, another taper from the
dickey show at mulcahy's the other night asked
him if he was gonna be at the beacon?

"i reckon so"

Couple this with Butch's pronouncement that there are no scheduled guests for 3/26, the actual 40th Anniversary of the band, and well, I ain't no rocket scientist, but the stars are aligning nicely for a truly epic night in ABB history on the 26th.....

I hope that you are right, but I read it like Butch was saying nobody but the current band would be performing on the 26th. Dickey would be a special guest.

I hope I'm wrong, because Dickey should be there on the 26th if he's available, but I'm guessing he'll be used just as we've see the other special guests for 3 or 4 songs and that's all.

dougrhon - 3/14/2009 at 02:37 PM

I'm starting to think Dickey will show up some time the last week and if he does they ought to do Blue Sky, the ultimate tribute to Duane.

Efus - 3/14/2009 at 02:44 PM

Well RK- folks interpret things differently, and my take on Butch's statement, is that there are no "scheduled" guests. Just semantics, but in my mind, Dickey is not a "guest" but the return of the prodigal Brother.....

I'd agree that it'd be a 3 or 4 song spot, but......I'm guessing that Dickey knows more than just a couple ABB tunes , so it may just be a set, and an encore.

Time will tell.....

Slimzimm - 3/14/2009 at 02:49 PM

I don't know when Dickey will be there, but he will be there for Duane.

I hope you are right, I really do. I just think the bad blood seems to run so deep that he might not be seen as the "return of the prodigal brother" and more of just "the fans would be upset if we didn't at least invite him" situation.

Again, I hope I'm wrong. I'd love to see one final full show with Dickey in the band with a 3 guitar attack of Dickey, Derek & Warren.

emr - 3/14/2009 at 03:16 PM

Think if this happens we may also see Thom Doucette (no rumors yet asbout him) since he's the only one left from the Duane era. Chuck L. would be a stretch timewise, but since there are no rumors yet about him who knows.

Set list - just from the first 4 recordings unless Chuck shows.

Me in the seventh row with my son - priceless

Have to say, I sure as hell hope this happens

JMidnightrider - 3/14/2009 at 03:23 PM

Just hope it happens.....Duane always had a way of bringing people together

Zambi - 3/14/2009 at 03:24 PM

Well, if it does happen, I hope they give him the whole night, or at least a whole set + encore. But if he does only sit in for a 3-4 song mini-set, I hope they don't only play the Dickey songs that the ABB has been doing the past few years - Revival, Jessica, Liz Reed - and instead make it an opportunity to play Dickey songs they haven't been playing, like Blue Sky, BWIAB, etc. I do hope it happens though, in some shape or form.

"Dickey would be a special guest". That line struck a chord with me in a weird way. Dickey "a guest" in the Allman Brothers Band. Sounds strange. A little Seven Turns, Blue Sky and Liz Reed. Gives me the chills just thinking about it. I hope it happens. Based on the reviews of a few of Dickey's shows recently, it sounds like he is very on top of his game after wrist surgery, and ready to dazzle the Beacon faithful. Cool.

emr - 3/14/2009 at 03:31 PM

I think he would be an extended guest - IMOER, Blue Sky, Whipping Post, Revival, Jessica (if Chuck Shows) Whipping Post. Don't think he could sit in for the whole show unless he rehearses the whole last week (he is off tour, however) and if he did that the world would know for sure

kdick - 3/14/2009 at 03:58 PM

No matter what ya say, Dickey is a Brother and always will be. The one that may or may not show up for Xmas dinner, but if he does, he is welcomed with open arms. Love to see it and I think if he was to come on the 26th, my read is he would be there for the entire show, as a brother not a special guest...........Duane is working some magic from that big Beacon in the sky.

bandobrocks - 3/14/2009 at 04:34 PM

This sounds like a perfect fit for Dickey's return. To interpret Butch....no special guest b/c Dickey is always a member of his own band. Big question is how do we get tickets for this one.

susea - 3/14/2009 at 04:36 PM

I've got a sweet seat for this show and I sure hope this is true and Dickey is there!!!

nebish - 3/14/2009 at 04:44 PM

They would still have to rehearse at least a little wouldn't they? Which could happen Wednesday 3/25 so maybe something definite will come out then.

spiv - 3/14/2009 at 05:14 PM

if it happens...it will be the longest, loudest ovation the Beacon has or will ever hear. Dickey will feel the love, Duane will be smiling down, and all of us lucky enough to be there will remember it forever.

I hope you get this wish Sue - I believe it will happen and be wonderful!

Haisija - 3/14/2009 at 05:29 PM

I hope they do Pony Boy...and the Dickey/Butch hambone at the end.

Hope Dickey makes it for the 3/26 show which is the actual 40th Anniversary of the band, but one other person needs to be invited, and that's Reese Wynans. Reese was the keyboard player for the Second Coming and was the keyboard player at the orginal March 26 jam that founded the Allman Brothers band. It would be cool if all four remaining players at that jam were at Beacon on 3/26. Btw, for those who you who don't know Reese later on found fame as the keyboard player for Stevie Ray Vaughn and Double Trouble.

mikev - 3/14/2009 at 05:41 PM

Wow Pony Boy now that's a flashbacks from past days (maybe '98, '99) the year they did the double acoustic/electric IMOER. yehaaa! I gots my ticket for 3/26.
I also like the notion of Back Where it All Began flashing pictures of Duane on the screen. Lets set the clocks back abit and let her rip.
BRING DICKEY BACK!!!!

Ed - 3/14/2009 at 06:54 PM

Folks it ain't going to happen...Hope I'm wrong but I was at dickey's show on the 6th and his crew says nope..They say its all Bull@%$# from Butch..Dickey will never be a guest.. He is the ABB.. Unless he gets a change of heart no ...Just imagine the ABB without Liz Reed,Revival,Southbound,NBLTRW,High Falls,Les Bres,etc,etc..
Ed
Without his songs just think of what they would be like..It would not be the ABB

Still in sync, Peg. Buying extra soft Kleenex!

McGregor - 3/14/2009 at 06:59 PM

I wouldn't mind hearing Scott Boyer play "Please Be WIth Me" as well

one can dream

darkstar827 - 3/14/2009 at 07:03 PM

believe me or not, but dickey is 100% coming out and its NOT on the 26th... give or take a few days behind or in front of that date, to be exact. expect some other heads to be there as well.

I must have asked the same guy you asked his quote at Mulcahy's was "It's all BS, Dickey was never asked".

I would think that if Dickey does show up he would probably close the show with them as to not have to just leave the stage like any other special guest.

My favorite

If Dickey does play the 26th, I would like to see him play the entire show. Let Derek and Warren rotate in and out.

JimWag - 3/14/2009 at 08:11 PM

I heard that it will the 03/23 show. He has not been wrong the whole run so far (source from California). The Dead are for the last night!
Peace,
Jim

Efus - 3/14/2009 at 08:26 PM

Well, I try not to get into these discussions about who's fault it is, and who was slighted and who wasn't. I find it all very counterproductive.
Whether Dickey shows or not, it won't effect my enjoyment of whats to come on the 26th.

But I'll say this as a fan of music and the Allman Brothers.
Duane was all about music, and creating music.
I understand the bad blood, and it is what it is.
But if these gentlemen can't put their differences behind them for 1 night (no matter what the agenda may be for some folks) in order to honor and pay tribute to Duane.
I think it'd be really small of them, imo. But obviously, I'm just a fan, outside of what has gone on in that circle.

As for Dickey's roadcrew saying its BS, well, its out there in black and white from Butch's mouth in an interview. So Butch is either lying, or he's put Dickey in a bad position by even saying it if Dickey doesn't show. Hard to believe Butch would do something like that, but who knows?

Like I said, lets see how it plays out.....
