Thread: Moogis camera work

I for one am loving it! Anybody else? Since MTV pioneered the "quick cut" style of music video, it's rare to see concert footage that doesn't feel like you're in a pinball game. The Moogis shots are long and loving, and always seem to be right where you want to be. The fact that you don't notice the cameras speaks volumes for how well it's being done. Imo, it is really enhancing the concert experience.

Kudos to whoever is directing those shots.

I was a little concerned with the first show. I was at the second so did not see it on Moogis. I think they have really gotten it down now. The shots were great and always appropriate. All the important action was caught and because nothing can ever beat the excitement of being there, it gave home viewers some insights that the audience outside of the first two rows could not get. I'm very happy with it.

Yes, I agree. Last night was an improvement over #1. No complaints about either, but things were better in #3.

My only "complaint" if you could call it that is they seem to be a bit slow cutting over to Gregg when the vocals come in. I agree they're getting better each show...

i think it's been awesome and gotten progressively better. LOVING the extended 'stays' on the guitars......can't convey how Fn great Moogis is...

When I interviewed Butch for the Moogis article in HTN #60 he told me he was going to make sure that the camera work was up to Allman Brothers Band standards:

quote:
I've watched the Beacon DVD and the Piedmont Park show where they have that crane and it's really good the first couple of times, but then you get really distracted by all the camera moves. It becomes MTV! Well it's not as bad as MTV, but the Allman Brothers are about music and when Derek's playing a solo, I guarantee you that 80%-90% of that solo, Derek is going to be on camera. There may be a quick cutaway, but then it's going to be right back on Derek. When Derek or Warren is playing a solo you want to be watching them! What I'm going to have is a director that is an Allman Brothers fan and understands our music, who has the comprehension and the ability to combine the music and the video so that the video delivers the music without distraction.

And that is the key to it all.

I wouldn't mind a little more camera time for Marc and Jaimoe.
