Thread: The Road goes On??/Or does it /somethings fishy

DOMEL - 4/15/2014 at 12:32 PM

They announce the break up at the beginning of their 2014 tour which ,had people scramble to make sure they go see them for THE LAST TIME AS ABB . last night a twitter conversation ,had people very upset and venting that they paid extra money because its the last run , people flying in from Norway ,from Cali ,from Germany ,all of them to see the beacon shows ironically ,the other screw up that management has not addressed yet. Everyones common twit was they only made these plans because of the supposed break up .Just like us in the area ,a lot of us paid double ticket face because ,we didn't want to miss the last time to see them as ABB. .I know the faithful(who think there the only ones) are flipping out about my comments ,just like my past Beacon comments ,but most of the negative if not all of them are from people that didn't spend 2grand to fly from Germany ,tickets, hotel ect...or spent $200 for a $95 ticket that never was played .....What next they play 2015 say its not the same anymore and then do another final tour ? this whole situation is very unprofessional ,what started out in 1969 ,with the only thing important is the fans and the music has turned into ,money greed and get it all while you can ..Yes if its true that they are gonna continue is great to hear ,Im not concerned about replacing Derek and Warren,as much as we would rather they did not leave, the brothers are the best all time at replacing and finding people to fit in,if they went on replacing Duane ,Berry ,Chuck, Lamar ,Dickey on and on im sure they will do it again. Just seems very fishy

I'm one of the "faithful" and I pretty much agree with everything you said. Freaking money grab, yet again. And if Gregg and Butch think I'll pay top dollar to see a weak Warren and Derek less ABB he's crazy. And I SAW them at Fillmore East to date myself

i am done after Derek and Warren leave and will have the memories of a lot of great music and about 50 Beacon shows that i have gotten thanks to my friends who taped them and distributed them. Will enjoy Mule and TTB. I just don't think there will be any excitement over a Beacon run with a new band at this point. At least not for me at these prices.

No disrespect to Derek or Warren but if you can replace Duane you can replace either one of them.

Ain't that the truth. I first saw ABB twice in 1974 and they did NOT compare to the current line-up which comes so much closer to the SOUND and FEEL of the original ABB in both music and spirit. Myself and several friends were first time ticket buyers for this Beacon run, getting lucky enough to score tickets for the 25th and 26th for exactly the reasons stated above. We love the ABB and celebrating them going out "on top" was a large motivator for spending the money on tickets/airfare/hotel, etc. Needless to say we were disappointed that the shows were postponed but that disappointment will in NO WAY compare to the disappointment that this was all some kind of half-assed ruse or that somebody "changed their mind". One large part of the reason so many of us love this band is because of their musical "integrity". Right now that integrity is feeling compromised in a LOT of ways. Why hasn't there been even a word from management about rescheduling the Beacon dates? Is Gregg REALLY ok and was this all REALLY about a case of bronchitis? I love this band deep to my soul but I feel they are treating us, their fans, disrespectfully to say the least. And I agree - an ABB continuing on without Warren and Derek is a VERY bad idea - musically, morally, and spiritually.

That fishy feeling you've got is the flounder-ing of the ABB management. After they "postponed" the last four Beacon shows they said an announcement would come soon. Please define soon. I've got two tickets burning a hole in my wallet. BTW, I saw the Bros. in '71 six weeks before Duane passed. Nobody "replaced" Duane or Berry. Seriously. Really. I mean, come on.

When do the angry calls and emails begin to get sent to ABB Management, i do agree they are the ones most at fault right now.

That really cracks me up --its like when fans want to replace managers on sports teams

So same question here-because its just Soooo easy to replace Warren/Derek-WHO could actually replace either --ESPECIALLY derek

sorry but NO one in the WORLD plays like him

MUCH easier said than done!!

You won't pay it, I will not either, but in the end it will not matter. Look at how many people still fork out the cash to see Lynyrd Skynyrd.

I have been going to the Beacon shows for 20 years and in that time have seen many a guest guitarist join the band. Some can't handle it (sorry Trey fans but he is out of his league along with many others) but some have been surprisingly talented. Nels Cline for example and even recently Scott Sharrard demonstrated the kind of musicianship that could fit into a newly structured ABB. Those are just two indicative names but there are others who could maintain an ABB approach and not try to replicate or immitate what Derek and Warren brought to the party. I am fine with wait and see mode. My stronger concern is not if Derek and Warren can be replaced but if Gregg can handle it much longer. Time will tell and this is all about enjoying fine music so I vote for keeping things positive and enjoying the ride :-)

It might not matter to certain individual's pocket books but it damn sure matters. The reformed Skynyrd doesn't exactly inspire musical respect or passion these days. It's pure showbiz.

Nels Cline for example

i really dug the two times nels sat in with the brothers....

and he's one hell of a nice guy---for the show in 2012 that gregg didnt make it, i had about a 2-0 minute conversation with nels in the orchestra section waiting for the brothers to take the stage....

Benandabbeysmom - 4/20/2014 at 02:09 PM

Nels Cline has a bunch of pretty good gigs going. I'm not sure he would give any of them up.

Totally agree. Still in a bad economy, I'm now on a limited income. I saw the first show from the upper balcony and of the three shows I have left - if they ever play them - only one set are close. Pure economics. I choose everyday what to see and do and a Warren and Derek less ABB is not on my list at these prices

bettyhynes - 4/26/2014 at 05:40 PM

I have a feeling the rescheduled shows won't come before Oct/Nov.
