I believe in term limits, and just hate lame duck status, so I carried out that logic and have to follow my head on this, instead of my heart, and the love for the people of Alaska, and God, and my family, and so I have no choice here, plus all the legal bills I am causing, about 300,00 real American dollars, but it seems like multi millions to real Americans like myself, but to, ya know, like, resign.

Peachypetewi - 7/4/2009 at 02:22 PM

She'll make a ton of money as a commentator on Fox Noise. She'll make the right wing wack jobs real happy watching her with their pants down around their ankles.

Mike - 7/4/2009 at 02:27 PM

I think she is quitting because it's much easier to remove herself and her family from the spotlight, the controversy and from the ridicule that comes from people like David Letterman. She may be going after a book deal, other opportunities for making money, or something else, but I don't blame her for wanting to get out of the political spotlight.

America isn't ready for a woman like Palin to be even close to POTUS. There's still too many people with sexist beliefs out there. This is clear from all of the photo-shopped pics of her - holding a rifle, Hooter's waitress pic, etc...

Mike

Peachypetewi - 7/4/2009 at 02:37 PM

I think it has more to do with the fact she's stupid and not qualified.

Mike - 7/4/2009 at 02:44 PM

I never said she was brilliant. I agree that she was not qualified.

Since many on the right were not really thrilled with McCain, they were looking for their "golden child." Many on the right immediately embraced her as a more attractive option than what they had been given before. Since we didn't know much about her from the very start, the left started the only thing that they could do - attacking her for not giving news conferences and photoshopping pics of her to make her look like a dumb broad. She couldn't shed that tag no matter how smart she really was.

How lame is quitting because you're not going to run again. So, she's elected POTUS and isn't running for re-election....she's going to quit that too because she'd be a lame duck? (ew...I made myself gag even thinking about her being president. )

From page 5 of the Vanity Fair article:

quote:
A year ago, 80 percent of Alaskans viewed Palin very favorably or somewhat favorably; by this spring, just 55 percent had a positive opinion. All this has given rise to speculation in Alaska that Palin may not run for re-election next year. She does not have to declare her candidacy until June 2010. Most politicians of both parties in Alaska with whom I spoke assume she could win, though not as persuasively as she did in 2006, which would hardly help her standing in a 2012 presidential campaign.

You got it, she can see Russia from her house, but she just now realized they must be able to see her too! Maybe they've been spying on her and have videos and even Todd being a marksman can't explain it to her; just cause you can see Russia doesn't mean I can do anything about it from here!

bigann - 7/5/2009 at 04:54 AM

I thought she was having delusions of grandeur......this twit is just plain delusional. And she thinks she's presidential material? Did Bush set the bar THAT low?

"I am now looking ahead and how we can advance this country together with our values of less government intervention, greater energy independence, stronger national security, and much-needed fiscal restraint
," she said.

Palin also cast herself as a victim and blasted the media, calling the response to her announcement "predictable" and out of touch.

"How sad that Washington and the media will never understand; it's about country," the statement said. "And though it's honorable for countless others to leave their positions for a higher calling and without finishing a term, of course we know by now, for some reason a different standard applies for the decisions I make."

Palin's personal spokeswoman, Meghan Stapleton, confirmed to The Associated Press that the Facebook posting was written by the governor.

The abruptness of her announcement and the mystery surrounding her plans has fed widespread speculation. But Palin attorney Thomas Van Flein on Saturday warned legal action may be taken against bloggers and publications that reprint what he calls fraudulent claims."To the extent several websites, most notably liberal Alaska blogger Shannyn Moore, are now claiming as 'fact' that Governor Palin resigned because she is 'under federal investigation' for embezzlement or other criminal wrongdoing, we will be exploring legal options this week to address such defamation," Van Flein said in a statement. "This is to provide notice to Ms. Moore, and those who re-publish the defamation, such as Huffington Post, MSNBC, the New York Times and The Washington Post, that the Palins will not allow them to propagate defamatory material without answering to this in a court of law."

I never understood all the cruelty towards the lady myself. I did not think she was the right choice by a long shot. Then I let it go and got over it.

Not to say I have never made fun of someone, but I always thought it was a little over done in her case. Whatever makes people feel good I guess.

Then I see people make fun of Obama and watch others get hysterical about it.....hmmm.

Except it is a lie. There was an investigation for trooper-gate. Will there be more investigations? Without a doubt. What is the bill so far? $300,000. The state of Alska is on the spot for those legal bills, not the Palins personally. She may have to spend some of her money now though, as she gets dragged into the dock to explain herself, without the power of office and the people of Alaska to pick up her legal bill. A very strange and disturbing press conference that leaves lots of questions just hanging there.

bigann - 7/5/2009 at 04:24 PM

When someone tries to present himself or, as in this case, herself as a legitimate politician with all the political aspirations that goes with it and then does truly mind boggling, stupid things, he or she is a fool if they don't think it's going to go un noticed.

I don't hate her.....I just think she and a bunch of others in politics today are idiots. About the only person I think is completely evil and dangerous is Cheney and the sooner he exits stage left, the happier I'll be.

PhotoRon286 - 7/5/2009 at 05:50 PM

The only thing I hate is the idea that people are dumb enough to think she is qualified for anything more than Gov. of Alaska.

And even that job looks to have been too complicated for her.

And how does she know what the NY Times or anu other paper or magazine says about her?

Oh yeah, I forgot she reads all of them.

Heh heh.

bigann - 7/5/2009 at 06:00 PM

I sort of cracked up about the slanderous publications thing myself......like she would ever know!!!! Of course since she tweets.....the wireless network version of short attention span theatre.....she might run across something. I suppose she answers the question...can a twit tweet?

I'm not really sure that I am following your statement/question here. If I understand you correctly, I would say that yes, she does understand that America is not ready for a POTUS like her. I doubt that she will be running in 2012 - too much hot press around her right now to die down in just 2 years (that's how long it will be before the media starts speculating about who will run in 2012). I think it's more of a reality to see her run in 2016. This gives her a while to rebuild her image and maybe make a run at a congressional seat.

To me, this says that you support a party and not an ideal. That doesn't mean that your opinion is worth less than anyone else's, but just means that I know where you stand. Posting comments like that makes me want to take you less seriously in a discussion.

Lastly, I don't think her current image/press will have much of an effect at all on the GOP.

Just my .02 cents, but I think Palin "stepping down" will pretty much kill whatever future political ambitions she may have. If she can't take the heat now, then she certainly wouldn't be able to take the increased heat if she was in or running for a higher office? Look at Hillary Clinton, how many slings and arrows, and digs and jokes have made about her over the years? Palin has it realitively easy in comparison. Truth is, anybody that wants to be in politics, expecially at the national level, better have some pretty tough and thick skin. For now on, if Palin tries to make a run for a national office, she will be quickly shot down as a quitter, and this will be from other Republicans. Her career in politics to large degree is over.

That doesn't mean she won't try to run for higher office, though. She's not going away.

She definitely managed to get two out of the three....probably all three when the dust settles and the truth comes out.

Obfuscation:

The noun has 3 meanings:

Meaning #1: confusion resulting from failure to understand

Meaning #2: the activity of obscuring people's understanding, leaving them baffled or bewildered

Meaning #3: darkening or obscuring the sight of something
