Thread: Can't Smile Enough About This!

PhotoRon286 - 11/4/2009 at 11:32 PM

Been a great week of music, finishes next Thursday with Gregg & Friends.

Today I got an email from my daughter, first communication in a couple of months:

quote:

WHOOO HOOOO!!!!

Just got an email from Amy.

She's coming home!

At least she's headed stateside for a brief stay in GA before her unit deploys again.

I'm relieved as hell that she survived wherever she was in Africa.

Hey Ron,

That is fantastic, Bro! You must be so happy...a couple of months is a long time to go between communications.

johnj - 11/4/2009 at 11:39 PM

Great to hear

Especially when you know she can't say where she is.

I cried when I read the email from her.

lolasdeb - 11/5/2009 at 12:20 AM

This is wonderful news, Ron! Safe travels home for Amy (and a thank-you for her service).

Brock - 11/5/2009 at 12:54 AM

Great news Ron. She's not allowed to communicate more than that? If so, that's rough.

They can't say where they are.

It was really rough when she was stationed in Germany and would just say she was "going on a small assignment" and I knew (assumed, guessed) she was going to Iraq.

Dreaded the daily news, anytime there was a mention of "three US soldiers died today" I had to hope she wasn't one of them.

Then after the temporary missions she was stationed there for six months.

It will drive you nuts if you let it.

Ron, I had no idea. I don't know how you handle it.

I am so happy for you and your family.

Wonderful news, indeed.

Thank you every one.

And I do mean ALL of you.

While it's great to know she'll be back in the US soon, it will only be temporary.

She has assured me she'll be home once before she is deployed again, but the way these things go she may not have time.

That is what made last summer so bad.

She had a month of leave, spent it elsewhere, and really hurt us (mainly me) by not coming home.

Some of you know that I am not her bio-dad.

She and her mother have NEVER gotten along, Amy & I are closer than they could ever be.

(One of the many reasons my wife hates me)

She's been my daughter since she was four and I love her as much as any of my kids.

nyc_barb - 11/5/2009 at 02:58 AM

I do know how you feel, Ron. So happy for you, my friend! Dan just went back to Japan, after being home for a month on leave. While he was in Iraq, it was quiet for him most of the time. He told us a few horror stories that he had to keep from us while he was there. I'm sure glad I didn't know about those things when they were happening!

God bless Amy, and all our brave service men and women!

annarose3 - 11/5/2009 at 03:06 AM

Best of luck to you and your family Ron.

PhotoRon286 - 11/5/2009 at 03:40 AM

Barb, don't Japan & Germany sound so nice?

Compared to Iraq, Afghanistan, Somalia, and wherever else our kids have been????

Kuwait sounded good when Amy told me she did a mission there.

At least those folks like us and our money.

And the fact we saved their asses a while back.

annarose3 - 11/5/2009 at 03:43 AM

Photoron, I have had several family members serve in Iraq and it has scared us all to death for the duration of each of their stays.

captskipper - 11/5/2009 at 03:57 AM

Thats certainly good news Ron. Its always great at church when we take one of the photos down off the "Service board" cuz they're back home

annarose3 - 11/5/2009 at 04:01 AM

Honestly, I can't wait until all the men and women serving in Iraq and Afghanistan
are back home. It will take some time though.

stormyrider - 11/5/2009 at 04:05 AM

awesome news

congrats

PhotoRon286 - 11/5/2009 at 04:21 AM

Skip. I'd be a whole lot happier if it were a long-term stay.

I owe you a long overdue phone call, brother.

jamminpappy - 11/5/2009 at 06:53 AM

Well she could go AWOL (allmaned-without-leave) and if she sought asylum at a Dickey show, well...
