Agreed.

I'm a fan of all the eras of Journey...The Rolie/Schon/Valory/Dunbar/Tickner years,
The Perry Years, and I'm currently enjoying the Arnel Pineda line-up. "Revelation"
is a strong comeback. I saw Journey with Heart and Cheap Trick last year.
The current band seems to be moving in a harder rock direction which I really
like. Not too many slow ballads with this line-up.
The only line-up I didn't really follow was the one with Steve Augeri at the helm.

If we want to bring back torture, subject the Gitmo guys to non-stop Steve Perry.

Ugh

langman - 4/26/2009 at 09:26 PM

they suck......I lived in San Francisco and Palo Alto when all of this crap came down the pipe.........it was awful.

"when the lights go down in The Citah and the sun shines on The Baaaay" > please stick a fork in Steve Perry.

painful >

Love the first few albums before Perry joined. Very overlooked albums IMO. Rolie and Schon fresh from Santana were going well.

I enjoyed the first one with Perry but they slowly lost me. Great musicians and Neil Schon is always great live.

I like their hits and saw them at Jones Beach a couple of years ago on one of those $10.00 promotions and thought they were very good. They pretty much play their music to the vest. I saw them before Arnel Pinada joined the band, but the singer I saw was pretty spot on. I think his name was Augieri or something like that.

fender31 - 4/26/2009 at 10:38 PM

I saw them 4 years ago,and they were vere good.neal schon put on a guitar clinic.

What??? No "Open Arms?"

jcb - 4/27/2009 at 12:19 AM

"Wheel in the Sky"
"Stone in Love"
"Lights"

Good stuff there, that's about it for me.

Back in my record collecting days I used to see the pre-Steve Perry LP's in the cutout bins all the time. I guess that's why they switched gears.

BigDaveOnBass - 4/27/2009 at 12:41 AM

Here are my two favorite Journey tunes...

Line of Fire

Stone In Love

Schon's guitar playing simply kicks ass!

Those kids were pretty damn good.

JimSheridan - 4/27/2009 at 01:19 AM

I should hear their first few albums. I HATE Journey but mostly because of Steve Perry. The band plays well. I just know their overplayed hits, and despise them.

hotlantatim - 4/27/2009 at 01:22 AM

I'll admit to enjoy the years in particular with Gregg Rollie and Stevie Perry.

Dixie Highway:

Feeling That Way:

Enjoyed a few songs like Stone in Love after that but Rollie's organ and deep vocal contrast was missed.

TopDroog - 4/27/2009 at 01:25 AM

Well, I think I did my first real making out with a pretty little blonde from Tennessee to "Lovin', Touchin', Squeezin," so Journey will ALWAYS be alright with me.

Duey - 4/27/2009 at 01:38 AM

Journey is good man, dam fine musicians. Classic Rock with lots of memories.

This li'l kids are great man.

The first three sound like a different band. Much more of the Santana influence.

I really missed Rolie when he left. the contrast of the two voices on songs like Feeling That Way helped to deal with Perry.

Tony liked them. enough for his farewell song at least.

I think the band members are talented but their songs are stupid. That being said, I probably know 90% of their lyrics because their songs have been played so often for the last 30 years.

moejimbo - 4/27/2009 at 01:58 AM

I really like the 1st 3 Albums.
Stopped paying attention when Perry joined the band.
It wasn't just Steve Perry. I just really didn't care for there
music at that point.

gotdrumz - 4/27/2009 at 02:42 AM

walks like a lady ?

alec - 4/27/2009 at 03:16 AM

Sax - 4/28/2009 at 05:52 PM

Journey before Perry was good. I'm a huge Greg Rolie fan - with and without Santana. Perry's voice is like nails on a chalkboard to me. He was tolerable on "Infinity" with Rolie to co-sing some stuff, but the next one ("Evolution?") was torture when Perry started the mannered "Whoh-oh-whoh" crap on every song. Like a gerbil being tortured to death. Plus Rolie was demoted to backing vocals on all but one song. I think he lasted one more studio album. Can't blame him.

BigDaveOnBass - 4/28/2009 at 08:01 PM

I heard a radio program on Journey a couple weeks ago and Rolie wasn't demoted or shoved aside for Steve Perry. He had simply been on the road in various groups since around 1966 or 67, he said he had been drinking too much when he was on the road and he wanted to spend more time at home with family and less time on the road. That came from his mouth in the interview, not Schon or Perry's. I think he said he even had a hand in selecting Jonathon Cain as his replacement because they had toured with The Babys and knew him. It was a great interview with Schon, Perry and Rolie all participating.

nitelite51 - 4/29/2009 at 01:08 AM

Great musicians creating overproduced sappy shallow crap.

CanadianMule - 4/29/2009 at 01:11 AM

Would be cool if they made an album or toured with the original lineup. Impossible to do without many expecting the Perry era songs.
