Hey Hop Jr ! My son also went to see Buckethead Saturday night and was truly excited about it. I saw him a couple of times myself. Twice at Bonnaroo ( with Les Claypool & another time with Praxis) and at the Variety Playhouse with Les and Bernie Worrell. He's incredible ! Brian Carroll is his real name I believe.

MaconPeach - 10/20/2008 at 11:01 PM

Hello there, young Hophead! I met you at the pre-show at Chastain though I'm sure you don't remember....there were so many of us!

My daughter is a freshman at UGA and she's going to see Buckethead tonight.....talked to her this afternoon and she was SO excited!

Buckethead can PLAY!

Hopheadjr - 10/20/2008 at 11:17 PM

Well really on Saturday he was great. My dad read about him on wikipedia and discovered he had lived in Jazz oobreks basements (i dont know how to spell his last name) he is the editor of guitar magazine but Buckethead is true guitar talent. Even thought he cant play just as good as Derek

TerriB - 10/21/2008 at 12:12 AM

Buckethead is actually Colonel Sanders the Third.

TopDroog - 10/21/2008 at 12:55 AM

Hi there, Jr.

You'll find plenty of Buckethead fans on this site. While we all agree on the greatness of the ABB, the way the tastes of the folks here branch out is truly staggering.

We've got the heavy metal shredders, the hair band cougars, the jazz aficionados, ragtime fingerpickers, bluegrass flatpickers, prog rock space cadets, classical scholars, classic rock encyclopedias, jamband twirlers, deep blues buskers, folkies, beatniks, and everything in between.

We ARE a great bunch!

Nice to see you here.

When it comes to speed, here are a couple of guys that this shady Texan turned me on to:

Here's one of my personal favorites, in sort of a slide and shred combo that's nothing if not unique:

Hey Ronnie!

Wow! A guy gets to go backstage, meet the entire band ... and they're not his favorites now!

Nice meeting you at Chastain!

Brock - 10/21/2008 at 02:21 PM

Welcome Hop Jr, good to meet you at Chastain. I hope you will enlighten us with new bands, as some of us old codgers might just get it. But don't avoid old music just because it is old. Someone once asked Bob Dylan on his XM radio show why he played so much old music. "Because there's alot more old music than new music."

On that note, I remember when the "oldies" station played my "dad's" music - Elvis, Bill Haley, Buddy Holly, Dion, Frankie Valli, etc. Now when I tune to an oldies station, I might still hear that, but I also hear The Doors, Creedence, the Stone, Kinks, Yardbirds, etc.

Now that some of the music of my youth is there, the oldies don't seem so old.

peachygurl - 10/21/2008 at 07:35 PM

Buckethead is very talented for sure...from back in those wild G N' R days till currently! and yes there are lots of decent bands out nowadays. my husband is into a lot of metal & alternative stuff so I get exposed to more than I probably would otherwise. I like much of the heavier sounds which I guess can be traced back to my high hair days in the 80's! One of my very favorite bands of all time is Godsmack...I love them! I catch them every chance I get & even have their sun symbol tattooed on me, along with Sully Erna's signature!

chasenbluesman - 10/21/2008 at 07:43 PM

sorry don't get the whole buckethead thing....does anybody remember the unknown comic from the old gong show...his joke's were so bad that he wore a bag over his head..not saying the guy can't play the music is not just my cup of tea...hey even kiss took off thier make up eventualy....(until all of the "final reunion" tours)..

Hopheadjr - 10/21/2008 at 08:42 PM

Hey now Rusty -

Can you imagine ANY thirteen-year old admiting his dad's favorite band is his own? I think not. At least he says Derek plays better than Buckethead ...

i also have a 13 year old son who's into a lot of "modern" music but he still has appreciation for a lot of the old stuff I listen to. several times a week he'll ask me what a song is that he hears around the house or in the truck...and from the random list of my ringback tones! he'll punch it in on you tube & check it out....and he knows & likes lots of my music just from being exposed to it, which is a good thing....he really does love the ABB which makes me happy! he asked us to take him to some different shows so i think next summer we will.

Rusty - 10/22/2008 at 12:28 PM

There certainly is a lot of good "modern" music out there.
But "greatness" comes with the test of time. We still listen to Beethoven. Bach, Miles, Coltrane, the Beatles and of course, the Allman Brother's Band because this is all GREAT music - affirmed by the number of years it's been around and listened to. Let's see how many of these bands are still viable in 10-20-30 years. I'm sure that some of them will be.
