Thread: Double neck guitar

As I watch Eltonís guitarist play one, I wonder why?

My guess is one neck is open and the other standard?

or 12 and 6 string or 6 string guitar and 6 string bass?

Like pops said, 12- and a 6- string is most popular. Don Felder would use one when playing the intro and solo parts for "Hotel California". Same with Jimmy Page when playing "Stairway"

But there are exceptions. Robbie Robertson played a Gibson double neck that sported a tenor mandolin.

and then there's Cheap Trick...

I don't know why Elton John's guitarist plays a double-neck, but reasons are well-covered above. For bassists, sometimes you will see a double-neck bass with fretted and fretless necks.

For Zep fans:

Michael Hedges played some wacked out multi-neck harp/guitar instruments.

That's hilarious. Nice find, Pops.

A badass doubleneck would be a tenor guitar neck and a standard 6 string neck.

My bad. I guess that's a baritone guitar on top:
