Thread: Documentary CHASING TRANE

JimSheridan - 11/9/2017 at 03:38 AM

By chance, a channel 13 showing of this documentary on John Coltrane crossed my path. Fascinating stuff. It had a decent balance of talking heads, footage of the man, music laid over photo montages, and biographical narrative. It mainly avoided salacious stuff. It did a nice user friendly overview of his evolution as a musician; a real devotee of his would know this info already or might want more in depth stuff, but it was respectful and intelligent. It cast some light on his role as a family man, as a spiritual man, and as someone trying to say things through instrumental music. Really lovely.
