I saw this for the 1st time yesterday, Great footage. I do too. RIP.

Had he lived, he would have been the 4th King, after Freddie, Albert, BB.

Fretsman - 7/30/2017 at 12:59 AM

He was a King regardless, What a talent.

shep66 - 7/30/2017 at 02:49 AM

I also think of the randomness of his tragic passing every year this sad anniversary occurs. He really had it together when this happened. I had the chance to see him at the Mann Music Center in July of that summer. I said that I would see him next time. Last time I made that mistake.

I don't know if Stevie would have accepted the mantle of "King" - just to humble.

I like to think of him as the last true gunslinger

Amen. I'm working on a really cool Stevie project with Andy Aledort right now. Will be ready to announce details late this fall.

I have told my story here several times, but I just cannot let an SRV thread go by, without stating what an incredibly fine, kind, considerate and humble man he was. On May 10, 1987, I had the pleasure of helping out on his road crew, got to hangout from about 9am till 1 am that night with SRV, his band and road crew, I learned a whole lot about how to treat others, from just watching how Stevie conducted himself. There was alot of work to do, but alot of time for softball, cookout and hanging out. It's something I will never forget...............Peace...........joe

I saw him in Houston for this same event.

Fabulous Thunderbirds, SRV, The Who.

Stevie blew them off the stage.

I was lucky enough to see Stevie around ten times from 1983 to the last time one month before his death on a double bill with Joe Cocker at Jones Beach. He always played a song or two you never heard him play before and he always kicked ass. I remember one time, May 1984 he played Nassau Community College on Long Island. I blew off class that day and since I worked on the concert staff I was in the building for the sound check. Chris and Tommy were on the stage and Stevie walks in and straps on his guitar, They play one song, Tommy and Chris leave and Stevie stays on the stage and plays for another twenty minutes or so by himself in front of me and like 2 other people. It was unreal. He just loved to play and it showed . When he finished I chatted with him a bit and he signed my Texas Flood album and was kind enough to take a pic with me. That album and the pic hang in my home to this day. He was truly one of a kind RIP SRV

I only saw Stevie once, Easter Sunday 1990, the year of his passing. I went to a Clapton show outside of Detroit. Clapton didn't have openers on that tour but he would have a special guest in the middle of the show. I think Knopler was on some of the shows.

Anyway, Stevie came out in the middle of the show and they jammed for probably a half hour. White Room by Cream was amazing!

Couldn't believe when I heard the news a few months later.

aiq - 8/2/2017 at 11:06 PM

SRV was amazing but he would've had a big hill to climb to eclipse Eric Clapton's career.

No down on Stevie but in my opinion if there was to be a fourth king that would be EC.
