Two days late for April Fools... that's an interesting pairing, but not a weird at Jeff and Brian Wilson.

musicmann - 4/3/2014 at 05:55 PM

I don't think this is a weird paring at all. Don't forget, Jeff Beck is rooted in the blues; Yardbirds and the early Jeff Beck Group with Rod Stewart and Beck Bogart and Appice. Billy Gibbons is one of the masters of blues rooted playing so it makes perfect sense to me and I hope the tour comes to NY!

I saw Jeff Beck and the Jan Hammer Group open for The Beach Boys back in the '70's. Jazz/Rock fusion and surf music. A lot of people in Hawaiian shirts with odd looks on their faces.

Any chance of a UK gig ...

ooogie - 4/4/2014 at 01:57 PM

This pairing sure beats the one with Brian Wilson. I skipped that one.
Gotta' get my Beck fix and go see the Jones Beach Thr. show.

allmanfan21 - 4/5/2014 at 01:08 AM

Hope Dallas is added to the tour.

amyjared - 4/5/2014 at 07:26 AM

Sweet! I'm SO going to see that Eugene Cuthbert show for my birthday!! Love when that happens!! Beautiful, small, outdoor venue that I can bicycle to!! Can't beat that!!

bump827 - 4/5/2014 at 07:30 PM

I hope they add PNC in NJ. The Beck/Brian Wilson show was bizarre at best. beck rules but Brian Wilson was nuts and overplayed. Didn't enjoy that part at all

Well now that I read what I wrote...

I went to one of those shows and am glad I did. The Beach boy harmonies were insanely good. I would never have seen Brian Wilson if it were not for Jeff Beck. It was definitely odd when they played together, but both sets were great.

bump827 - 4/5/2014 at 11:52 PM

Yeah I was glad I saw it but wouldn't do it again.

I saw the Beck/Wilson show and thought it was great. Super harmonies.

I'll be seeing this pairing the night before ABB at Lockn'. Gary Clark Jr. is opening at Merriweather Post Pavilion.

ZZ Top was one of the most disappointing shows I ever saw. Canned Ham and Cheese all-around.

Happily...they weren't when I saw them in `73. Glad I saw the band when they actually played music.

BillyBlastoff - 4/17/2014 at 12:49 PM

I saw them last year. It was a fun show. Not nearly enough jamming but still good music. Corny? Yeah. What has me going this year is that they are playing a set with Jeff Beck. I figure they will have to jam.

It is the day before ABB at Lockn' so I'm guaranteed good music at least one of two days.

It's now official. Jimmy Hall will be singing w/ Jeff Beck on this tour. Really happy he is getting some good exposure. I enjoy seeing him in house attics and backyards, but he deserves better.

He's not as good looking as Beth Hart, but will do.

MaconPeach - 6/25/2014 at 05:49 PM

Brock!! I am SO excited that Jimmy Hall will be singing with Jeff Beck. We went to Jimmy's birthday bash concert at the Capitol Theatre here in Macon at the end of April. He was great......what a singer, musician, AND entertainer.

Duh on me about the Braves....but I'll still enjoy it! I fainted when I looked at your ticket deal for ZZ Top/Jeff Beck concert.....it's fantastic! Unfortunately, I went through Ticketbastard. :-(

Jeff is a great player, but I would rather listen to Billy G anyday of the week.

BillyBlastoff - 6/25/2014 at 09:19 PM

All those decades ago... seeing Wet Willie with White Witch, ABB, Mountain... I never imagined Jimmy Hall playing with Jeff Beck.

This should be interesting.

Hope Tal Wilkenfeld is also on this tour. I'm surprised to see her in this since she and Jeff parted ways some yrs ago.

Jeff and Jimmy do have a history. I am told Jimmy was on a Beck album from the mid-80's that was Grammy-nominated.

Thank you so much for posting this, I sure hope Tal and Jimmy stay on the Jeff Beck tour this summer- what a show that will be! What a cool band! (But I think Beck should be paired with Santana instead of ZZ Top! .)

I figured it out, Flash (and only an instrumental won the Grammy). Here it is:

I'll confirm soon that there will be no synthesizers on this tour! Yikes, the 80's was often a scary place.

I read somewhere that the Brazil show with Tal and Vinnie back in the band was a one-off. They have done subsequent shows with this lineup:

Jeff Beck (g)
Nicholas Meier (g)
Rhonda Smith (b)
Jonathan Joseph (d)

I have been seeing ZZ Top usually at The Beacon just about annually for the last 10 years or so. They put on a great, entertaining show. Same three guys, same three chords is a Billy G quote that is kind of true but if you don't have fun at a ZZ Top show and you are a fan of ABB type music, I would be surprised. I always walk out from their concerts with a smile on my face. They have a bit of an act that Billy and Dusty put on, but it is fun and the music is still great!

For me they are like a comfortable pair of slippers. I know what to expect and like how it feels. I'm looking forward to the show.

This was just announced:

Jeff Beck Undergoes 'Emergency Medical Attention' And Cancels Tour

The rock veteran made the announcement after turning 70 this week

Jeff Beck Undergoes 'Emergency Medical Attention' And Cancels Tour

Legendary guitarist Jeff Beck is in hospital undergoing a 'short procedure' after announcing the cancellation of European dates on his worldwide tour.
Jeff Beck's work as a guitairst has spanned five decades and influenced the likes of Brian May, Eddie Van Halen and Steve Vai.
The rock veteran turned 70-years-old this week, and has sent his 'profound apologies' to fans for cancelling the European leg of his tour.
"It is with the greatest regret that Jeff Beck has been forced to cancel the forthcoming European dates of his worldwide tour, set to begin in Austria on 27 June," read a statement .
"Following many months of international touring and after seeking emergency medical attention, Jeff will now undertake a short hospital procedure and his doctors have instructed a complete break from performance for a total of six weeks. Following the treatment, Jeff will fulfil his US tour commitments beginning in Missoula MT on 8th August.
"He sends his profound apologies to those fans who had bought tickets for the European concerts and very much looks forward to playing for his American audiences after he has completed his treatment."

Jeff Beck is best known for his intense whammy bar action on his white signature Fender Stratocaster, and his vocal, vowel-like guitar phrasing.

Mike, same here they always rock the beacon- Billy G is a master and I love their simplicity when they play there. Just guitars, drums, old school amps and talent. nothing more. love their unique stage sets too!

RPOZ51 - 6/27/2014 at 12:47 AM

Not sure how/if this is related to his current situation, but this is from Guitar Player magazine:

Update! June 26 > 12:30 pm PST

GP's social-networking editor Jennifer Bergeron found a May 5 report at contactmusic.com that may shed some light on Beck's condition.

Apparently, Beck experienced discomfort during his joint concert tour with Brian Wilson last year, and had an endoscopy (an internal examination done with a camera at the end of a flexible tube) on an undisclosed body part or organ during a stop in Chicago.

At the time, Beck gave the following, somewhat cryptic statement to Britain's Mojo magazine: "What I didn't realise was that the tour bosses wanted me to spend the whole afternoon doing promo to prop up ticket sales. So we did this meet-and-greet stuff where audiences pay good money to watch rehearsals which robbed me of my afternoon nap. I ended up in Chicago University Hospital having an endoscopy. They still had me playing the next night. It was a bit blood and guts, but I had fallen in love with the idea of playing with Brian Wilson."

More to come as the story unfolds...
