Thoughs and prayers go out to Gregg.

filmmajor - 4/26/2012 at 06:19 PM

I am no doctor but what does cardiac testing have to do with a hernia operation?

LUKE - 4/26/2012 at 06:26 PM

As Dickey told me a coupla years back "Luke,Greggs a sick boy."

bird72 - 4/26/2012 at 06:27 PM

Thank Creator for this news. I have refrained from commenting, but the Damage Done video was terribly difficult to watch and hear for me. The man needs Creators healing love and rest and rejuvination, along with whatever medical assistance. Bless Gregg Allman!

I'm in full agreement with you, Bird.
Almighty God, bless the medical personnel working with Gregg with wisdom, that he might be made completely sound.

RyanBelair - 4/26/2012 at 06:32 PM

Sorry to hear that he is having further health issues, glad he is getting some treatment, hope he hears some good news. Hope the doctors keep him under tight reins for a bit. Get well Gregg!

With the delay in his book tour maybe now I can meet him when he comes through Atlanta (I am out of town on the original date of his apperance).

I am a huge fan of the Allman Brothers and wish Gregg well as I would anyone suffering from health issues, that said I do not understand the hero worship and calls for God to bless Gregg etc. that comes from people here....he is a musician and a great one but not Mother Theresa ...I am not hoping for anything but a quick recovery but I truly dont understand the almost religious fervor of some of the statements here!

Heavenly Father, hear our prayers. You are the great physician. Please be present with and provide comfort and peace to Gregg as he deals with these health issues. Give the doctors discernment to diagnose and properly treat his ailments, and give him complete healing, spiritually and physically. He is your child and I ask this of You in the name of Jesus. Amen.

On a VERY serious note.......

I wish Gregg the absolute best, and sending loving vibes his way.

Probably not related, but given that it has been reported that he has looked weak, has lost weight etc those are signs to get checked... might be that when he was in for the hernia fix they had him hooked up to an ekg machine & saw something that didn't look right... hell he is a 60 something southern boy that has been eatin that good food all these years... something is bound to be blocked up.

Interesting that it says at the end of the article that it shouldn't affect the band and that tour dates are being announced May 1.

That said, hope all goes well with the testing and he gets the treatment he needs for everything he has going on.

Geeze....don't look now, but a couple of coincidental health issues that affected a couple of performances potentially might turn into something more chronic resulting in other members looking to pursue other interests in the meantime. 24 hours ago, that notion was considered ABSURD.

Look - you are obviously a brilliant person or you would not be allowed to post on an internet message board like some common anonymous yahoo. But maybe you could consider exercising a little bit of common sense and tact, shutting your mouth, and just wishing Gregg well instead of twisting people's words, making stuff up, and yammering on about an unrelated argument. That sounds like what a decent human being would do. I'm hoping Gregg gets better and that this is a precaution that doesn't indicate any other serious problems.

The article also says at the end that summer dates will be announced May 1 (Tues.). I haven't seen ABB in 2-1/2 years, but with all of Gregg's recent health problems, I'm having a tough time getting excited about it.

amen.

jonbrach,

gregg has done nothing of worship, nor is BDOD worshiping him. Dave offered a heartfelt prayer that I fully believe that he would offer to anyone here in the same position as Gregg. Gregg Allman, besides being the musician, is also a person who needs just as much prayer as the next person. Dave, and many others on this board, have prayed for the well being of people that they know and as well as complete strangers. their voices and messages reach their all-loving God who specifically asks his people to pray for those in need. not sure what's wrong or over the top about that.

LeglizHemp - 4/26/2012 at 09:16 PM

having had a heart attack last year myself, my guess is they will be doing a Heart Scan ( http://www.umm.edu/heart/heart_scan.htm ) to see if there is any blockage. even if they find blockage in the scan they really don't know bad it is unless they run the snake up your arteries to the heart and look at it from the inside. if they do that they will either put in a stent or use the balloon thing to open up the blockage. they probably won't do that though because of the hernia and other health issues. like they did for me, wait until something happens, then fix it.

CanadianMule - 4/26/2012 at 09:19 PM

There are worse things to worry about than people praying. We each express ourselves in different ways. Don't see how some prayer could hurt nor be "over the top". If it isn't your thing then cool but why worry about how others express themselves. In the end our goals are the same, we are just taking different paths.

BDOB and others have sent a few prayers my way over time and I fully appreciate it. Never been much of a religious guy but it can't hurt to have a few friends that are in my corner.

Glad to hear that Gregg has put all this promo stuff on the shelf. Take care of yourself Gregg and get well. Not sure how God views my prayers but I don't mind giving it a try at times.

I'm sending love and all the best wishes to Gregg. I do love him and cherish him.
Gregg was there with his music when I needed him. His music has healing poswer.

To all the people that manage Gregg's career, please let this man get the rest he needs so badly.

I would love for Gregg to come back soon, but I mostly want him here with us.

God love you, Gregg

Thank you for the prayer, Big Dave. You said it so well.

In an interview I read a few years ago, Gregory said he had atrial fibrillation and a heart ablation in New York City. I don't know any details, but this could be a continuing problem.

In his book, he says he attends the Episcopal Church, so as a Christian I am sure he would appreciate people praying to God for His healing.

From the home page:

"Apr 26: Gregg's book tour pushed back one week Gregg is having a medical procedure tomorrow and the book tour will be pushed back a week. We wanted to let everyone know that Gregg is excited for the book launch and is still planning to get out on the road starting May 8th. We'll be posting updates regularly. Let's all send positive vibes Gregg's way!"

Sounds like Atlanta is still on Mr shorts-wearer!

Did anyone know before all this that Gregg was going to be on Colbert and Piers? I sure did not. Why are we always the last to know?

Brightboy - 4/27/2012 at 12:26 AM

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) Poor health hasn't robbed Gregg Allman of his sense of humor.
Just as it seemed the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame member was finally over the effects of his liver transplant two years ago, he's been forced to delay his upcoming book tour to promote his new memoir, "My Cross to Bear," for heart tests.
But in a phone interview Thursday afternoon he seemed in good spirits as he described his latest health problem.
"It's just one of those make-sure tests, you know," Allman said. "My heart goes into A Fib (atrial fibrillation) and does those beats you know, instead of going du-dun, du-dun, du-dun, it goes ta-da-dat-ta-da-doot-doot. There's a little reggae in there somewhere."
Allman is scheduled to undergo tests Friday at The Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Fla. He had a liver transplant due to Hepatitis C at the same clinic in 2010 and has been steadily recovering since, though he's been forced to cancel or postpone performances from time to time because of setbacks.
He recently had hernia surgery related to the transplant and says he feels as well as he has in some time. It's unclear if his heart problems are related to the transplant
The co-founder of The Allman Brothers Band and a key figure in rock 'n' roll joined his band mates at last weekend's Wanee Festival in Florida.
"That's our festival down there," Allman said. "The Allman Brothers started it. I didn't play the whole set, but I played both nights. In all I might've done 10 songs maybe. It was a lot of fun."
Allman will begin his book tour May 8 if doctors turn up no significant problems. He also plans to hit the road this summer with the Allman Brothers, something he feels he owes his fans.
"I know there's been a lot of people that have had their hearts set God bless 'em on seeing me and my boys perform and seeing me and the Brothers perform," Allman said. "And because of this virus and all these damned surgeries, I had to cancel. I've always really held that sacred and a no-show I am not. I'd like extend my apology to them. It's just kind of a bigger bump than I expected in the road, and as of this summer I'll be there with bells on in the future."

You certainly are not the ghost of Duane.

quote:
Translation: "Keep your mouth shut, put on your peach colored glasses and see things as I tell you to see them, as opposed to how they are (or might be), or else..."

You point out anywhere I flat out made something up about your comments on the "absurdity" of the idea the band may pursue other interests without Gregg if he is unable to perform. This looks more and more like you popped in a thread, made some baseless comments, and thought because there's a bunch of stars next to your name they'd go unchecked. It was an ignorant comment, and proven wrong with Gregg's own comments (among other things).

I love the music, and really have enjoyed some of the discussion sporadically here for YEARS (and DEFINITELY supported the band financially), but God forbid you call something straight and, in doing so, stray from the subjective bias, and look out...

roboto - 4/27/2012 at 12:56 AM

As of about 2 years ago there were three hospitals in the country that have digital angiogram machines. One is at Lenox Hill Hospital in NYC, the other is in Ohio where it was first developed and the third is in DC.

http://www.lenoxhillhospital.org/departments.aspx?id=848

There may be additional hospitals that have these machines now, but the traditional angiogram is not the only way to know what is going on in the cardiovascular system.

Just FYI.

If Gregg has atrialfibulation, please do not take Pradaxa. Over 500 people have died while on it since it has been on the market and that has only been about a year and a half. The FDA is investigating the drug again and there are many law-suites against it around the country. http://www.newsinferno.com/pharmaceuticals/pradaxa-bleeding-deaths-reported -in-117-more-patients-ismp-finds/36626

Dave's on this site always bringing something positive, supportive and helpful to the threads - until someone needs a bitchslap (see above). I've never met Dave, but those who have all seem to like him.

Why anyone would challenge another person for offering a prayer for a sick person on a fansite focusing on that person, is beyond me. Seriously, YOU'RE ON THE ALLMAN BROTHERS WEBSITE CRITICIZING SOMEONE FOR PRAYING FOR GREGG ALLMAN!!

Sorry for the hijack.......

Offering prayers for Gregg and all the members of the ABB family...unfortunately health issues and getting older go hand in hand and I pray all of us have the strength and medical care to deal with what comes our way.

That's fine, Ron, and I can respect that, but the spaghetti prayer bordered on ridicule. Not of the praying persuasion? Fine, but don't ridicule those who do. One of my best friends is atheist and I don't try and prosthelytize him out of respect for his personal liberty to choose.

kdick - 4/27/2012 at 12:03 PM

So I get this right, a thread that was put up about Gregg's health issues and those wishing him well in many ways has now turned into a religious debate? Cmon kids, it is irrelevant, with a capital I as to what your beliefs are in this situation. I hope we can all agree that all on this board are hoping, praying, sending vibes whatever your persuasion is that Gregg recovers well and is back doing what HE loves to do in due course.

I am sure Mr. Allman will take your wishes no matter how they come.

Now yall get back in the sandbox and play nice!!

CanadianMule - 4/27/2012 at 12:04 PM

There was definitely disrespect whether it was intended or not.

On the Gregg issue, it doesn't seem like he will be taking as much time as I think is needed. I am no doctor but some time off seems obvious. I will buy 5 books if he takes the needed time. Screw the book signings.

THANK YOU!

I don't want to scare the crap out of anyone, but want to say that Gregg should be (if he has not already) be evaluated to rule out Long QT Wave Syndrome, which is a genetically inherited disorder that can cause something called Sudden Arrythmia Death Syndrome. What happens is the heart does not go thru it's normal sequence of conductivity (electrical impulses) in the heart, so it does not always beat properly. It does not always beat improperly either which is how the disease often goes un-noticed, mis-diagnosed.

http://www.aafp.org/afp/2003/0801/p483.html

SADS (sudden arrythmia death syndrome) encompasses a number of clinical entities, including congenital long QT syndrome, Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome, idiopathic ventricular fibrillation, and coronary artery spasm (e.g., from cocaine intoxi cation). Some cases of sudden infant death syndrome also have been attributed to fatal arrhythmias during sleep. Arrhythmias may be induced in normal hearts by drugs (e.g., terfenadine [Seldane]); electrolyte abnormalities (e.g., hypokalemia or hypomagnesemia); myocarditis; and endocrine, central nervous system, or nutritional disorders. These arrhythmias are associated with prolongation of the electrocardiographic QT interval.3 Another class of arrhythmias that is often associated with long QT syndrome includes hereditary genetic defects that affect the cardiac ion channels; this article focuses on this emerging entity.

COMMENTS: Sudden arrythmia death syndrome is not that common, but if you have it, you need to know it. Also, does Gregg have sleep apnea? I have that and never knew it until an anesthesiologist determined it during a surgery and told me. All these years I never knew it. That's an important thing too.

ok, i didn't want to get involved in this discussion but obviously i must . Big Dave, it was not my intention to ridecule you or anyone else on this board. if you look at the time stamps on the 2 posts they are very close. i had not even seen your prayer when i entered my attempt at humor. i had started to write it and something at work distracted me, thats why its 3 mins later.now i'm a big boy and i can handle this critizism, but lets not make a bigger issue of what some consider a bad joke. i have decided to keep my day job also, thank you for the advice dave.

Strange apology if it was meant to be one.

If your point was not to mock or ridicule then what was it? At least be honest about what your intent was.

BigDaveOnBass - 4/27/2012 at 02:05 PM

LeglizHemp, I apologize for assuming ridicule in your post. jonbrach, I apologize for losing my composure with you yesterday, too. I haven't been feeling great the last week and I get cranky when I sick, plus I am worried about Gregg. Please forgive me.

LeglizHemp - 4/27/2012 at 02:08 PM

all is good. get well soon dave

Amen.

What Dave said.

I'm glad to see that Gregg is getting checked out, although he's been taking care of his health for the past couple of years. Hopefully he'll take the time off that he needs and gets himself together so that he & the band can continue on in the fine way that we & they are all accustomed to.
Sending positive vibes his way, as always.

that said I do not understand the hero worship and calls for God to bless Gregg etc. that comes from people here....he is a musician and a great one but not Mother Theresa ...

See what's hanging around his neck? That pretty much tells me where he stands.

He talks about his religious beliefs in the book.

dougrhon - 4/27/2012 at 04:30 PM

With all the wonderful Christian prayers for Gregg I hope nobody will mind if I offer a blessing in the Jewish tradition for a refuah shlemah, a speedy and complete healing of both body and spirit.

dadof2 - 4/27/2012 at 04:41 PM

drea-ny - 4/27/2012 at 10:00 PM

Sending healing vibes out to Gregg. Please take your time and let your body heal. Your music has given so much healing to others in some many ways. Listen to the docs. You said you don't want to let your fans down. You never have. I will keep you in my thoughts daily.

midnghtrdr69 - 4/27/2012 at 11:01 PM

Just saw that Gregg book tour postponment is trending at #9 on Yahoo now.

jfk2112 - 4/27/2012 at 11:34 PM

The curious case of the Flying Spaghetti Monster:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flying_Spaghetti_Monster

If you're going to believe in some strange stuff, you have to have a sense of humor about it.

I personally hope Gregg gets well, finds the power within himself to take care of his aging body with rest, relaxation, medicines, etc. and go on to live a long time to come.

LeglizHemp - 4/28/2012 at 12:14 AM

really the whole side topic should be dropped. are better places to discuss it than here

StratDal - 4/28/2012 at 12:48 AM

What Gregg needs is some of Mama's cookin'! That'll cure anything!

rongabbard - 4/28/2012 at 12:51 AM
