He's one of the best & a fav. of mine for years....end of discussion.

musicmann - 8/3/2010 at 02:22 PM

I like him alot.

Lee - 8/3/2010 at 02:22 PM

Going to see him with Sang (egad!) in a few weeks. I've never seen him with the Crowes so I am interested to see how it all plays out. I love his style with NMAS and the times I've seen him sit in with the ABB. Should be a great show!

Benjamin - 8/3/2010 at 02:23 PM

Hernando...Polaris was one i actually didn't care for too much.

Benjamin - 8/3/2010 at 02:30 PM

I like most of them equally - the live ones as well as the studio.
i use to say electric blue watermelon wass my favorite....

robslob - 8/3/2010 at 02:39 PM

Electric Blue Watermelon is my favorite NMAS disc. Saw Luther with the Crowes at The Fillmore December 2008 and have soundboard discs of the show...........SMOKIN'.

Lee - 8/3/2010 at 03:09 PM

Shake Hands with Shorty by a mile.

As was mentioned, Hiatt's Master of Disaster was awesome as well.

EasyMichael - 8/3/2010 at 03:55 PM

I've always felt that NMAS is a band I should be more into, if that makes any sense. I still have "Shake Hands With Shorty" and had "51 Phantom" at one time, but that's it. This discussion is helping--thanks, Jim!

jparadise - 8/3/2010 at 04:13 PM

Luther is the best thing that could have happened to the Crowes at the time when he came in. He was the catalyst that brought them back in my opinion. Granted they're writing great songs again, but Luther is just tearing it up.

Chain - 8/3/2010 at 04:24 PM

Speaking of Luther and the Crowes, anyone care to speculate what he'll decide to do after the Crowes go on hiatus? Another NMAS album? Solo work? What do you all think?

Benjamin - 8/3/2010 at 04:47 PM

Don't know - and who's got the real info on Chew - is he out or in, if there's still a NMAS?

jparadise - 8/3/2010 at 04:55 PM

There is definitely still a NMA, Cody has had numerous side projects....one recent one with Brendan from Umphrey's and Jeff from Yonder......NMA went on a semi hiatus so that Luther could take a huge opportunity is my understanding......they'll be back.

EBW is my favorite and is also the album that got me into NMA. Love his playing with the Crowes to

ruthelane - 8/3/2010 at 05:45 PM

Luther has soul. I like him.

downsouth - 8/3/2010 at 06:20 PM

as Luther said "once an Allstar, always an Allstar".

Chew is the Glue!! i hope all is well with Big Daddy, and he's just doin his own thing. he drives tour buses, so he may be out on the road recently. he loves to drive.

i'll post a few links to a couple of Duo Loco (2man NMAS) clips from the Dickinson Brothers opening for Robert Plant in Memphis, Little Rock and one other town. smokin but short 30min sets. Plant even played the washboard during one of his band's tunes - there's a link to that as well.

man, they musta been psyched to open for friggin Plant & Co - wow. from RP's comments on the washboard vid, I wonder if they'll get a call when the tour comes back to the States.

Where did you get your info on Chew leaving NMAS? I had heard he left Hill Country because they weren't making any $. I hadn't heard that he officially left NMAS. Maybe he's just laying low for a bit and the Luther/Cody duo is just a side gig??

I personally spoke with Chris several times here in memphis as i run into him from time to time..bascially he didnt like the uncertainty of cash flow also complained about some of the shows HCR was beeing sent to. He told me one show in Idaho has like five people show up and he wants a steady income so he is working a day job ..he is a awesome bass player and i bet he gets back into the music scene again

BANANAMAN - 8/3/2010 at 09:03 PM

Phantom 51 and Shake Hands W / Shorty. Seen them a few times. Luther in my opinion channels everything from Dickey Betts to Hendrix, which ain't a bad thing as far as I'm concerned. Hope to see him with the Crowes later this month.

As I recall, you were the one who turned me on to the NMAS my friend.

It was Shake Hands With Shorty and one listen is all it took .

Been a rabid Luther and a NMAS fan ever since...
