Thread: No Red Rocks for ABB this year

SmilingJack - 3/6/2010 at 12:41 AM

From Lana on the guest book:

"Hi again,
No. The Macon show will be confirmed Monday. Also a Huntsville show between NO and Macon looks pretty solid. However these, and the other already announced shows for this year, will be it for 2010."

So, I hope Susan and Derek come out west. I hope they come on Labor Day as well as other days, and other ABB related bands also. It doesn't seem like there will be a bbq this year then. But everyone please stop by if you are in Denver or think about taking a regular vacation here. I wonder who Snowmass will have Labor Day weekend?

lolasdeb - 3/6/2010 at 12:44 AM

Mule at Red Rocks over Labor Day weekend, Jack. Just got my Mule email.

If this is the beginning of the last ABB shows, I'd hope that it's the beginning of Derek & Mule playing ABB songs in into their setlists. (I don't, of course, mean the later Warren songs) Of course, I think they should be doing that now but understand why they don't. But if the ABB doesn't tour anymore or much, Mule should be playing Liz Reed, Whipping Post and certainly Statesboro on often rotation. JMHO

TRMGDEAD - 3/6/2010 at 01:06 AM

Without Gregg to sing some of those songs, I doubt that Warren will add them to his sets. I could see him throwing WP jams into songs or doing the songs with words as instrumentals.

sixty8 - 3/6/2010 at 05:36 AM

Wow! It'll be a blue summer without the Allman Brothers Band at Jones Beach. It would be the first time since my first ever ABB show in 1992 that they didn't play JB. It is like the ending of a tradition.

All of this is so sad. The Peacheaters in Boston, Wharfstock, RR, all these great get togethers where old friends met up and new friendships were forged.

I was planning to attend Wharfstock and the RR gathering not even considering attending the actual shows just to see all my friends. This will have me treasure the UP, Wanee and Crossroads shows and gatherings even more this year.

Hopefully it's only for 2010.

PhotoRon286 - 3/6/2010 at 01:53 PM

This will be the second time since 1990 that I won't see the ABB or Dickey during the summer.

That sucks.

jbpats0823 - 3/6/2010 at 03:18 PM

so what is that auction for the Boston summer show which has been floating around this board? a Scam?

You have a point, the Red Rocks shows are a tradition, so is Saratoga, NY in the end of August. THey ought to re-think and do some shows in each part of the country so people can go to them. It doesn't have to be a lot of shows, but some in each area. I remember when Devon came all the way from Europe (on the plane) the same night just to the Riverhead Blues festival. Now we don't expect a haul like that from the band, but certainly more shows would be good. Like Tanglewood for the Boston, and Northeast contingent. Niagara Falls, Saratoga for the upper NYS contingent.

We were just starting to get a CMAC groove going after they quit playing Darien.

phillybob - 3/6/2010 at 09:32 PM

they were just talking about a short northeast run certainly makes you wonder about all the turmoil. Sounding like the End of the Line.

WTF is that! First they move from Great Woods to Boston waterfront then back to Great Woods and then to the Western Part of the state. Give it up guys, things are falling apart.

Did anyone count the actual number of dates? Only 8 in Nyc plus Wanee, New Orleans and a couple of other festivals with no tour only adds up to a dozen or so dates! Wow.

me too if Wharfy would let me in

ruthelane - 3/8/2010 at 02:08 AM

Karen and I are going to see the Derek and Susan band in Savannah Apr. 1st.

I hope Gregg continues for many years to come.
I would go to either Derek or Susan's shows but doubtful I would go to a Mule show.
Just not my taste in music.

KWidgeon - 3/8/2010 at 02:11 AM

Jack - I won't forget you and Phyllis no matter what! I'll be out in Colorado at some point to visit my brother. I'll definitely try to get in touch with you. Sure would love another ABB at Red Rocks show, though.:-(

And Wharfy - Like Slammer, Wharfstock is on my Bucket List. I'm gonna meet you someday, come hell or high water.

thelionsden - 3/8/2010 at 04:26 PM

pretty weak there are no ATL Fox dates. I would figure they could give a 3 night run there in late April/early May.

Mule is Mule, they are not the ABB. Apples and oranges. They may do an ABB cover here and there like they already do but they don't need to add in ABB songs just because they are slowing down. Same with Derek and his band. I would rather see them expanding and playing more of their own catalogs. Just my opinion.
