Thread: My Mom, Mary

les_paul_sunburst - 5/12/2008 at 02:08 AM

Friends,

I wrote this for my Mom back on Mother's Day in 2008 and I just thought I'd bump it back up for Mother's day today

Andrew

****************************************************

She was the best mother a person could ever ask for:

Someone who taught me the meaning of love by her actions as much as by her words

Someone who sacrificed the things she wanted and needed so she could see the smiles on her kids' faces when she bought them "extra" gifts that we always appreciated, but could have done without. That money should have been spent on her but our smiles were all she wanted or needed to see...

Someone who taught me to love books by reading to me as soon as I could hold a book in my hands.

Someone who taught me as a teenager that her rock and roll heroes, Chuck Berry, Bill Haley, Little Richard, and Elvis Presley were just as important, and just as wonderful as the ones that I idolized. She played their music for me and made me a lifetime fan of her music. How could I ever properly thank her for that?

Someone who truly deserved all the love that she received. At her funeral, the viewing room both evenings was wall to wall with people. The funeral home staff was a bit taken by it all. Everyone who ever knew her considered her a friend. And most of them within driving distance were there to say goodbye.

To have touched so many people just by being who she was is a true testament to the kind of person she was.

I would give anything to be able to tell her face to face, "I love you Mom" one more time.

On this Mother's Day in 2008 it's now been almost 2 1/2 years since I said goodbye to her for the last time.

But I also know that she is still with us, and can still hear me when I say...

I love you Mom....

LPS, your mom sounded like a wonderful lady. Matter of fact, your description of her could be used for my mother, too. I bet they are friends in the afterlife.

R.I.P. Mary......and Jan.
