Thread: Ask and You Shall Receive

It is my humble honor to inaugurate Johnny's Forum section I just had the chance to meet Mr. Neel at the Odyssey Music Festival and enjoyed it thoroughly. He is as entertaining to converse with as he is on stage! For those who don't know, Johnny played with the Allman Brothers during the Seven Turns era and co-wrote ABB songs like "Low Down Dirty Mean."

Johnny has recently joined Deep Fried, the best unknown band on Planet Earth, with Matt Abts of Govt Mule and George Porter and Brian Stoltz of the Funky Meters. Neel's recent performances with Col. Bruce Hampton at Odyssey and the Bayou Rendesvous have me thinking that Johnny and Bruce should work together more often, that just seems like a natural match. As Johnny said, "Me and the Colonel are in the same army!"

Congratulations Johnny! Now you, too, can have total strangers argue your strengths and weaknesses in a public forum with no repercussions or restraints

I agree, Johnny is as fun to talk with as he is to listen to his tunes.

I first met him in Newark Delaware circa 85 with DBB when they shared the billing with GAB at the Stone Baloon. He and I were dang near neighbors.

Thanks for starting the thread, I'll check back often hoping to get word to J.N. that the capn sez high...

11-9-03 at the Ryman, Marty Stewart (the country singer) gave me his backstage pass and boy was it nice to have Johnny backstage. Everyone backstage was famous besides me ( Audley Freed, Chris Robinson, Kate Hudson, Leroy Parnell, the guy that wrote Old Friend (forgot his name), Jack Pearson, and many more) and damn if Johnny didn't make me feel right at home. Later, I let my girlfriend take the pass and she said the same thing that I thought. What a cool guy.
