Thread: David Bowie 4/27/83, B&P For 5, With A Surprise Inside!

oldcoot - 2/21/2007 at 03:28 PM

Way back in 1983, I was doing some yard work and had a radio playing tuned to an album oriented station. Never been a fan of David Bowie but the DJ introduced "Let's Dance" as coming from his new release of the same title. I really dismissed it until I heard some guitar chops on the song that caught my attention. Bowie's material really has never been "guitar oriented" so I was curious, who is the dude with those smooth and tasty licks?

The next time at the record store, yes, record store.... I took a lok at the album only to find out said guitar player was none other than Stevie Ray Vaughan! I guess this is equivalent to Duane playing with Lulu.

So, recently, I had the opportunity to trade for an unusual tidbit from 4/27/83 Stevie rehearsing with Bowie's band in anticipation of touring with Bowie. As the story goes, just prior to embarking on said tour, SRV became frustated with the whole thing and returned to his own solo career. The rest, as it's said, is history.

Anywho, I'm offering this two disc B&P for five, so if you must have all things SRV, you don't have it all until you have this.

Post below and PM for shipping details. #5 close the door. Please be prompt and get your mailers out!

Just be aware that Stevie doesn't "steal the show" here, it's rehearsals and he mostly plays fills but does let loose once or twice.

Actually, I gave this a pretty thorough listen this morning and Stevie gets some pretty good licks in there on most tunes. The instruments are a little down in the mix compared to the vocals.
