Ditto squared -- that one of Duane in the spotlight is heavenly -- and that IS his spirit under the porch in the rehearsal one at the farm.

rainy - 11/19/2006 at 02:33 PM

OMG Stephen.... I know.... I usually am a skeptic when it comes to things like this..ya know there is an explanation type thingy... doesn't look like there is one on the picture , except for the obvious

I agree! Here's another flat out killer -- Duane tuning his Gibson. Boy the photog caught some great ones of the guys during this shoot (the "Duane pic from Finsky" shoot).
Don't know where you're finding these Gaston, but they are sen-sational. Thank you brutha!! -- and to all the contributors & cool people who make this website such a rush to come to -- like Mitzi, Clay Pelland, Donnah, all the people who offer up trades, etc etc.

the first thing I thought when I saw this pic was he was in the middle of the YDLM solo.

the person in the front row covering her(?) mouth in awe.

God, what a picture.

Gaston, thanks again. Unreal.

Haisija - 11/21/2006 at 06:57 AM

Man that is quite a shot isn't it piacere !I think you got the reaction to the person in the front row right on perfecto.

Thanks for sharing so many of the photos Gaston.

piacere - 11/21/2006 at 07:27 AM

Hai, you ol' dog

after I saw that pic for the umpteenth time, I put on the headphones and slapped in disc number two of that fine 3 disc set you sent me and I've got YDLM crankin' as I type.

this freakin' place rocks the roof off.

for sure. I think of the dude all the time.

I don't know, maybe I'm stuck in a time warp or just gettin' old but I'm really sorta hung up on the original line up. I can't get over that show you sent me. The dude smokes.

down at Narragansett Beach, back in the mid-70's, someone wrote "Remember Duane Allman" on the beach wall. I took a picture of it. It's framed and on my living room wall.

The original line up...always #1 to me too good bro.

Duane with Ronnie Hawkins.

Haisija - 11/21/2006 at 04:30 PM

Finding the note. Thanks Sir Gaston.

piacere - 11/21/2006 at 04:31 PM

people just looked at that guy with a guitar in his hands and couldn't believe what they were hearing and looking at. Almost in reverance. Like watching some secret unfold.

Good Lord.

Stephen - 11/22/2006 at 01:29 AM

Thoroughly cosmic -- I've ceased being amazed at the gems that are unearthed of Duane & the early days of the band -- just an awesome, awesome candid.
Once again, MANY thanks Gaston -- this place is just so cool -- you should put these in the GPG too! That's the beauty of it -- the first G is interchangeable, for you or Greggswoman!

Gaston - 11/23/2006 at 02:26 AM

Playing the Gibson L 100 pre-war acoustic guitar...

BrotherofBeauty - 11/23/2006 at 11:39 AM

First of all: thank you so much, Gaston and all the brothers and sisters that share such wonderful info and beautiful pictures.

You know, I'm one of those people that meditate, believe in reincarnation, healing prayers etc. In fact I've been teaching the stuff for almost 20 years now. I have met amazing people, among them a few that in my social world are called saints. Krishnamurti; Ammaji; Grace; Swami Chittananda; and others.
I have since long considered Duane a spiritual teacher. I would hesitate to call him a saint. But seeing that I am far from the only one that he has deeply affected and keeps on affecting, and understanding from Randy's book how much he accomplished, how uplifting his presence was, well, he must have been close.

Even when I was 20 I intuitively understood somehow that he could not stay on this plane(t). I mean, when you reach the point where your fingers aren't needed to play the guitar anymore, that means you're finished here.

For those interested in the issue, here's the link to a conversation about music and the limits of beauty:
http://www.petervankan.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=89&Ite mid=68

Isn't it amazing and a blessing to have the web and see all this stuff from the past arrive in the present ? Like a time machine.
OK, back to work; greetings from Holland y'all.

I agree. While the other lineups have been good to amazing, I don't think any have recaptured the fire and passion that characterized the originals.

One of my favorite photos of Duane not being on stage. I did line drawing of this photo in art class in high school. Had to ruin my photo from the Anthology album making a block graph to do this. The teacher told me she wanted to keep my project. I let her. I wonder if she still has it. Project was done during the 1975/76 school year.
Ms Hill, Winnetonka High School, Kansas City, Missouri, where are you ?

One of my favorite photos of Duane not being on stage. I did line drawing of this photo in art class in high school. Had to ruin my photo from the Anthology album making a block graph to do this. The teacher told me she wanted to keep my project. I let her. I wonder if she still has it. Project was done during the 1975/76 school year.

Gaston, your post on 12~13 with the B&W Photos of Duane with the Plaid shirt standing next to the mic stand are from the Whiskey A Go~Go, 1971 and are available for purchase through ~ jonlevicke~ on E-Bay. I have 3 different shots (11X14) Framed and hanging in my studio...Awesome!...and Very affordable. I believe this jonlevicke is the original Photgrapher... Not a Plug...Just a Great piece of Photographic History.

You know Haisija I'm not sure if that is a Les Paul or an ES 335. Check out the tip of the cutaway of the guitar in the cloud picture compared to the Les Paul in the bathroom picture. The tip of the cutaway on an ES 335 is more rounded than a Les Paul.

AWESOME color one Susea! Thanks for sharing.
These are all just so good -- what a treat.

marionsindorf - 12/19/2006 at 10:10 AM

The bottom picture is from the ABB gig at the Cosmic Carnival where Duane played an ES 335. I believe both pictures are from the same gig. The clothes match and check out the microphone in both pictures. Same brand of mic and check out the piece of duct tape wrapped around the mic cord about three inches from the end. I have just submitted another photo form the same gig that's somewhat clearer.

Here are a couple of those. Duane's not in one of them (maybe he took the picture?).

I asked Johnny Sandlin about these pictures once. He said that the band (Hour Glass) was playing in L.A.. The cast of Lost in Space were big fans and had them play at a cast party. Johnny said that he has "a whole set of these pictures".

Same sentiment echoed loud & clear -- tremendous collage of Duane -- same with the one from the Forest Inn in Jacksonville, as well as the one of Berry from that gig posted in his forum a day or two ago -- that may have been among the first-ever ABB gigs perhaps? I wonder if those were taken before the band moved to Macon -- what treasures.
Again, tremendous stuff bro, & thanks.
