Milwaukee 8-26-7

This was my 31st ABB show and i must say one of the most unique. Opening with Mountain Jam was a great call!! Derek and Warren's interplay was very sweet indeed. moving to Statesboro the band was in full swing. However what made this unique was the overall set selection. I am very glad the guys are putting in some covers as it gives everyone a chance to experience their takes on different songs. My favorite from this night was Smokestack Lightin'!!
They just had a cool grove and again Derek and Warren exchanged passages very well. Also playing "The Weight", and "Highway 61" by Dylan was interesting. Possibly one too many covers but they played them excellantly. Rocking Horse has become one of my new favorites as it is played i feel with much more intensity than when the Mule does this. Truely this song is what makes the ABB as great today as at anytime. The rises and falls and attacking style of all the band members make this song one of the best they do now!
This band is so together that it is a tribute to their desire and conviction to the music and each other which carries them to new levels of excellance. The other highlight for me was a burinin' version of Leave My Blues at Home!!! grinding and powerful performances along with bass and drum solos(Oteil on drums as well!!!) made this my fav of the set.
And then to close off with Mountain Jam's ending was so cool! All in all a satisfying show. I would rate this maybe 7 out of 10. Again the set list was very different. Since i live in Milwaukee i have been to the Riverside many times. However the sound was just average(not bands fault) and the heat was almost unbearable. With a full house i would think to turn on the AC.
