Hot Music for a Hot Night

The Brothers turned up the heat on a hot muggy night at The New York State Fair on 8/27/04. They didn't miss a lick in a 2 hour set that featured a 17 minute drum arsenal as Butch, Jaimoe, and Marc blended rhythms and blew the crowd away. Derek added his own voice to a great rendition of "End of the Line". "Melissa" was a masterpiece, as always. "Ain't My Cross To Bear" got the show started on the right foot. The crowd got in on it for "One Way Out" as we sang, "There's a man down there, might be your man, I don't know." A huge thrill for me was getting to meet Warren before the show at the Shamrock tent in the Fair. He signed autographs and let fans get pictures with him. He's such a genuinely nice person, it was one of the thrills of my life to get to talk to him, if only for a couple of seconds. A hot night and a hot show. Five stars.

I agree and all, but for a first show it was quite excellent. The encore was cut short thanks to our fellow Syracuse drunks.

It wasn't a bad show at all. I was quite suprised they played what they did. End of the line was top notch. I'm in love with that tune now. Hot 'Lanta, and all that was excellent. The encore was cut short, I agree. But for my first show, I danced my ass off.

Sorry, I was vaguely disappointed when I left the concert, and it grew, especially when I checked out the set lists from other concerts. The band didn't extend themselves, imo. They were good, they're always good, but... something was missing. No interplay between Trucks and Haynes, like you'd get on Mountain Jam, or Whipping Post. The percussion solo was nice, but too long. And a four minute or so "One Way Out" for an encore? Quite disappointing.
