The Gorge 07/03/04

The Allman Brothers / Dead show at The Gorge was truely a great show . This was our first trip to The Gorge < A long way from our home in Connecticut > , we thought the sound was amazing and the setting was beautiful . My wife and I sat in the 17th row , arround alot of Dead fans whom had never seen the Allman Brothers before . After the show , there were alot of new Allman Brothers fans ! We are extremely dissapointed though that the Allman Brothers have decided not to release their portion of the concert recording we purchased before the show . Why ? We purchased a similar recording last year at the Meadows in Hartford , Ct. and we listen to it all the time . We love you guys , please reconsider . Thanks again for a memorable show !

Just wanted to add one other point. The Dead fans were VERY good. Many of them were not familiar with the ABB but they were a wonderful, happy group. I don't think I've seen so much happiness and sense of community at a concert since the 70's. My four kids joined and they had a blast. We were sitting pretty high up in the GA section so there was a definite feeling of detachment, but I just went down through the crowd to the special section and clung to the fencing, to hear a couple of the songs.

I think there were a couple of boo-boos during "The Night They Drove Ol' Dixie Down" - Gregg may have missed a line or two. That's pretty normal though; I can't imagine what else could have been the problem. I was miffed, though, that everybody was allowed to bring in their recording apparati, yet I wasn't allowed to bring in my digital camera? It was great to see Warren do both sets, but I felt he held off a bit during the ABB portion, in order to "pace" himself. Derek was out of this world, though. It was my first Dead concert and I was kind of perplexed that they didn't play any longer than the ABB (about 2-1/2 hours for each band). And the really peculiar thing was that about an hour into the Dead concert, they left the stage for a break and were gone for OVER AND HOUR! The crowd was pretty cool about it though; something tells me not too many people had any concept of time, havcing stopped off at Shakedown Street along the way to pick up supplies...
