Dickey Betts Hospitalized Due to Freak Accident

Posted on Wednesday, September 19, 2018 - 05:40 PM

Update from David Spero, Dickey's manager, on Friday 9/21/18:

----------------
Dickey Betts and his family want everyone to know that his surgery was a success. The outpouring of support from all over the world has been overwhelming and amazing. We are so appreciative.

Thank you all so much for your wonderful thoughts and prayers. We will keep you updated.

Dickey Betts has been hospitalized due to a freak accident.

Betts, the "Ramblin' Man" singer-songwriter and founding Allman Brothers Band guitarist, went out to their backyard on Little Sarasota Bay and while playing with the family dog, slipped and cracked his head, causing bleeding from the brain.

Betts has been sedated at an undisclosed local hospital following the accident Monday evening at the Osprey home he shares with wife Donna.

David Spero, Betts' longtime friend and manager, said the beloved rock legend is "listed as in critical but stable condition".

Brain surgery, to relieve swelling, has been scheduled for Friday.

Donna is by her husband's side with Dickey's children. ‘The family appreciates all of your thoughts and prayers during this very trying time.” Donna said. “Dickey is a notorious fighter and he is displaying that now!”.”

Last month, Betts suffered a "mild stroke" at his Sarasota home and had to cancel upcoming tour dates. A few weeks later, Spero announced Betts was responding "very well to treatment" and on Sept. 14 posted to Betts' social media pages that, "Dickey Betts is raring to go. His recovery from his minor stroke is ahead of schedule and he has already started playing his guitar again."

Now, though, Betts' family, friends and band mates are focusing their attention on Betts regaining his health; with the upcoming November shows obviously being cancelled.

"It was just a few days ago that Dickey was telling me how excited he was to get back in front of the fans on November 1," Spero said. "It is very unfortunate, for all involved, that we need to cancel those shows. Please add Dickey into your thoughts and prayers”

Posted on Saturday, July 21, 2018 - 06:02 AM

The OWSLEY STANLEY FOUNDATION and THE ALLMAN BROTHERS BAND are pleased to announce the CD release of "Bear’s Sonic Journals: Allman Brothers Band, Fillmore East February 1970." It's available today exclusively at the Peach Music Festival, then through the OSF website on July 24, and in stores on August 10. This recording showcases an early incarnation of the band from February 11, 13, and 14, 1970, with Duane Allman in full form.

The CD release presents the same playlist as the long out-of-print limited release from 1996, with all new mastering from Bear's original tapes. In fact, all of the source tapes for the CD have been mastered and will be released as high-resolution downloads (available on July 27 through our website).

These downloads showcase never before released material from each performance, including the earliest known live concert recordings of “In Memory of Elizabeth Reed,” which the band opened with on each of the three nights. Here's a sample of it from the February 14 version that's on the CD. If you're attending the Festival this week, we hope you'll stop by the Allman Brothers Band Museum table to visit with us and have a listen...

Bill Graham and the Rock & Roll Revolution Exhibit coming to St. Petersburg, FL

Posted on Tuesday, June 05, 2018 - 01:30 PM

Bill Graham holds a special place in our hearts and we are thrilled to let you know that the Florida Holocaust Museum in St. Petersburg is hosting the Bill Graham and the Rock & Roll Revolution exhibition from August 18, 2018 through February 10, 2019. A Gibson Les Paul owned by Duane Allman will be on display along with memorabilia, photographs, archival concert footage, historical and new video interviews, ephemera, and psychedelic art.

Bill Graham and the Rock & Roll Revolution is both a deeply personal reflection on Graham’s life and an exploration of how Graham helped transform rock music into the immersive, multi-dimensional, and highly lucrative phenomenon of rock theater that persists today. Treasured photographs and artifacts from Graham’s early life and career will be on loan from the Graham family, many on view to the public for the first time. Also for the first time ever, preparatory drawings and the original artwork of several iconic Fillmore concert posters will be on museum display, revealing the signature visual styles and creative process of poster artists Bonnie MacLean, Wes Wilson, David Singer, Greg Irons, and David Byrd.

This exhibition explores the extraordinary life of Bill Graham (1931- 1991), a renowned music promoter who helped launch and promote the careers of countless rock & roll artists. It also traces the indomitable spirit of a man brought to the United States as an eleven-year-old Jewish refugee fleeing the Nazis, fueling a lifelong passion and advocacy for social justice.

Bill Graham and the Rock & Roll Revolution opens to the public on August 18, 2018 and will be on display through February 10, 2019 at The Florida Holocaust Museum.

Details are on the museum website: https://www.flholocaustmuseum.org/explore-2/exhibits/billgrahamrockrollrevolution/
