Billy Joel actually did play the Mar Y Sol Festival. He was touring behind his "Cold Spring Harbor" LP, and gained some recognition from Rolling Stone magazine as well as Columbia Records, the company that signed him a year later.

This was Billy's Mar Y Sol setlist:

TRAVELLIN' PRAYER
JOSEPHINE
CAPTAIN JACK
TOMORROW IS TODAY
THE LETTER
JUMPING JACK FLASH
BALLAD OF BILLY THE KID
