| | | | "...see here how everything leads up to this day." | 2006-Apr-02 | Twenty-four years ago today, I was physically present for my first Grateful Dead show.
The cause and effect of that major ripple in the pond of my life is today, still undulating an ebb and flow of unrealized potential.
It was a hot spring day in Durham, NC, that melted the conversations of new-found life-long friends into the most incredibly colorful musical experience I had ever wittnessed.
"...Say it might have been a fiddle
Or it could have been the wind
But there seems to be a beat now
I can feel it my feet now
Listen here it comes again!"
About seven shows and one year later somewhere in PA., I met the greatest love of my life - I just wasn't paying attention.
"...a rainbow full of sound...."
Then, nine years and almost thirty shows later, while digesting RFK Summer Solstice'92 with this glorious redhead, every fiber of my being woke up and took notice.
"...fireworks! calliopes! and clowns!"
Our honeymoon was a chunk of '93 Summer Tour.
"...Sun went down in honey
And the moon came up in wine,
You know stars were spinnin' dizzy,
Lord the band kept us so busy
We forgot about the time."
Right up to this day, every single day,
Henry still gives me butterflies.
Twenty-four years later,
I am still April's Happy Fool!
"...full of dancin'!
full of singin' and romancin'!
The music never stopped!"
Thank you, Jerry! | | |

| | | | owed to Oscar | 2005-Oct-31 | I met Oscar on Christmas Eve 1988. He sat under my sister's Christmas tree. He seemed most perplexed with the huge red bow wrapped around his neck. He would be grouchy for the next 15 years.
Oscar the Grouch was a rescue. He had been abused. Even as a kitten, he had little patience for playtime. He would lay in wait, under or behind furniture, to extract chunks of flesh from unsuspecting ankles. He would not pounce, but simply reach out with one paw, snag his target in a fraction of a second, then look the other way pretending not to have seen a thing... never moving from his recline. He would squint, sometimes followed by a slow blink then fix his gaze as if to say, "What?".
He was the ultimate test of Henry's love and devotion. I know this because Henry did not kill Oscar after the cat (even tho' fixed before 6 months old) sprayed the Music Man bass case, among other cherished possessions. We slowly began to realize the kitty had long been blind (and deaf) and this was how he found his way around His house.
Oscar mellowed about a year ago, became down right affectionate after all those years. I knew then it was the beginning of the end.
We didn't think he would survive this summer, but he did. Our Pops rooted a Pussy Willow bush over the summer to plant on top of him, "...for when that day comes.".
Oscar disappeared almost two weeks ago. His furry shell is still missing, but the Pussy Willow bush will be planted, in one of his favorite spots, this evening around sunset.
I at least owe him that.
Oscar the Grouch was my wonderful companion for almost 16 years.
Blessed be. | | |

| | | | house of snooze? | 2005-Jul-19 | Last week, the kids got caught napping by a dude with a camera-phone near the end of Eric Johnson's show at House of Blues-MBSC. They were exhuasted from several days playing on the beach and just couldn't hang for the whole show. | | |
