mushroomWelcome, to Hittin' the Web with the Allman Brothers Band!

The Allman Brothers Band have a 40 (Congratulations, ABB!) year tradition of blending the new and the old... playing the songs that stir our souls because they bring back so many great memories, casting classic blues tunes in a new light, and then hitting us with something completely fresh and new that is destined to become a classic.

And the band has a history of being more than a musical experience - it's a family experience! And that extends to this website. So come here to learn about shows and CD's - but also come here to become part of our big, worldwide, Peachy Extended Family! Welcome!!

ShakeIt!

What's Shakin'?

Happy 40th Anniversary Allman Brothers Band!

**Announcement**

Darien Lakes made a mistake and printed, and distributed, a flyer that had an Allman Brothers Band/Widespread Panic concert date on it. Darien Lakes used their working calendar, not their actual calendar. The Allman Brothers Band/Widespeard Panic have opted to play, and announced they will be playing, at Canadaigua instead of Darien Lakes this year. And Canadaigua is where they will be. Darien Lakes regrets the confusion.

**Date Change**

The National Football League has announced a home pre-season game for the Chicago Bears on Thursday September the 3rd at Soldier Field in Chicago. Due to limited parking in the area the Allman Brothers Band and Widespread Panic concert scheduled at Charter One Pavilion on September 3rd will be moved to Tuesday September 1st. All tickets will be honored.

2008 ABB Live CD's

Hittin' the Note is happy to announce that we have the entire Allman Brothers Band 2008 tour in stock! We believe that these 23 concert performances represent the best playing this version of the band has ever achieved! In talking with various members of the band and management they are in complete agreement - 2008 was something very special - and a wonderful lead-in to the upcoming 40th anniversary year.

After an 11-month hiatus, the band came back firing on all cylinders and hittin’ the note as only they can. Some bands might be hesitant after such a long layoff, but the ABB didn’t have any training wheels on this tour, breaking out new songs and rearranging old ones to keep the music fresh and alive. A total of 56 songs (plus JaBuMa) were played over the course of the first 12 shows.

Willie Dixon’s blues classic “I Ain’t Superstitious” was given the full ABB treatment, with Warren’s gruff vocals and Derek’s stinging slide taking the song to new heights. Bob Dylan’s “It Takes a Lot to Laugh, It Takes a Train to Cry” was reinvented as a hard-hitting rocker, with Brother Gregory belting out the lyrics with soulful, bluesy power. A number of shows featured special guest appearances from tour mates Bob Weir & Ratdog as well as other friends such as Roy Haynes, Jr. Mack, Bruce Katz from Gregg Allman and Friends, Danny Louis, Susan Tedeschi, Jay Collins, Scott Sharrard and Luther Dickinson.

As incredible as the August tour was, the fall tour was even better! The mind-bending 9/30 Columbia show, with magnificent versions of "Les Brers in A Minor" and "Dreams" among others, was an early indicator that this would be a very special tour. The band never let up from there, with each show offering highlights. The 10/1 Virginia Beach concert has an amazing "Afro Blue>JaMaBuBu>Jessica" sequence. The 10/3 Raleigh show had a version of "Rocking Horse" that may be the best ever. The 10/4 Charlotte performance featured one of the most exotic set lists of recent years, with rare covers like "Come On In My Kitchen" and Hendrix's "Manic Depression" alongside deep ABB cuts like "Gambler's Roll." The 10/7 show from Pelham, Alabama has a great "Mountain Jam>Smokestack Lightning>Mountain Jam" sandwich that sounds as good as it looks. The 10/8 show from Orange Beach is one big highlight, with a best-ever version of "Why Does Love Got To Be So Sad?" and a great acoustic version of "Preachin' Blues." The band finished the tour with two incendiary shows in Atlanta, both of which were two set "Evening With" shows. The "Mountain Jam" from 10/10 and the "Dreams" from 10/11 stand up to any other version of these classic songs, and both shows are full of great jams and noteworthy performances. As you can tell, we think this was one of the finest tours in years!

With so many outstanding performances to choose from - it may be hard to figure out what to order. We've created several packages to give you a good idea of what the Tour Mystic and the band thinks were some of their finer concerts. The band was so hot by the end of the run that we have a Tour Ending 3fer package that is made up of the two Atlanta shows plus the Obama fundraiser at State College, PA. We also have the West Best Six Pack Package - which is 6 of the best shows for the price of 5. The West Best El Grande Package is 12 of the best shows for the price of 10 and there is the Complete 2008 Summer Set which give you four free shows plus a free subscription to Hittin' the Note magazine, pictures of the ABB, mementos from the tour and other goodies.

It truly was an extraordinary tour and we look forward to shipping these shows to such deserving fans!

Besides being a part of the Allman Brothers Band's rhythmic foundation for 40 years, Jaimoe has a nearly limitless musical appetite that includes jazz, blues and R&B. When he is not on the road with the ABB, Jaimoe's Jasssz Band is his primary vehicle for exploring other aspects of his muse. Featuring excellent players like Jay Collins of Gregg Allman and Friends, David Stoltz, and guitar slinger and vocalist Junior Mack, this is a very talented band. Playing mainly in his home state of Connecticut, these gigs have become a special treat for New England Peach-heads. For years we have had people asking if this outstanding ensemble would ever release a CD...and now they have - two, double CDs in fact! Click here for song samples and to find out more!

Susan Tedeschi has a new CD - Back To The River - that our friends at Hittin' the Note have in stock - click here to listen to song samples and to order.

The Derek Trucks Band also has a new CD Pre-sale going on with very cool raffle prizes and giveaways. Click here to find out more!

GREAT NEWS! We have an answer to your question "when is the next archival release coming?" It's here now! There's a new release available featuring the original ABB lineup playing at the Boston Common August 17, 1971. Recorded just five months after the historic Fillmore East shows, this gem includes "Statesboro Blues," "Trouble No More," "Don't Keep Me Wonderin'," a 26 minute "You Don't Love Me," Berry's vocals on "Hoochie Coochie Man," "In Memory of Elizabeth Reed," and a riveting and unusual "Whipping Post" finale. You can buy it at the Beacon shows or click to order it online.

Scratchin' your head about how to brighten someone's day? Do we ever have a cure for the blues! It's a sure bet that someone you care about would like an Allman Brothers Band CD or DVD they don't have. Come see all the CDs and DVDs and more at Hittin' the Note and we are sure you will find something for all your music-loving friends!

The first ABB archive release, American University, 12/13/70, another superb early recording and ABB manager Bert Holman's first show, is back in stock! The second ABB archive release, SUNY at Stonybrook, 9/19/71, contains one of the best “Dreams” ever captured on tape and a rare “Blue Sky” with Duane! Recorded just weeks prior to Duane’s untimely passing, this one will surely make you sit up and listen to the growth of the band in its short run to that point. The third ABB archive, Macon, 2/11/72, captures the intense spirit and determination the "5-man band era" showed as they regrouped following the loss of their leader, Duane Allman. Many of your friends here at HTW heard the band during this extremely emotional era and found healing in the music, including members of the ABB themselves. A rare glimpse into that time can be found on this CD. The fourth archival release from the Allman Brothers Band features the same lineup that recorded the legendary Brothers and Sisters album, with new members Chuck Leavell and Lamar Williams. Nassau Coliseum, 5/1/73 is another proud addition to this line of great archival shows from the Allman Brothers Band. This particular incarnation was often referred to as the “best damn band in the land,” and for good reason. Such ABB gems as “Jessica,” “Come and Go Blues,” “Ramblin’ Man,” and “Wasted Words,” plus a cool “Mountain Jam” are highlights of this outstanding recording. In addition, old chestnuts are revamped to fit the current lineup – this one is a keeper for sure!

The Allman Brothers Band are "Hittin' the Note"

HTN cd coverThe Allman Brothers Band has released their first new release in nine years. Titled "Hittin' the Note" the 11 cut CD kicks off with "Firing Line," and grows through the heartache intensity of "Desdemona," the reflective delicacy of "Old Before My Time," the alternating blues feel and funky strut of the Freddy King cover "Woman Across the River," the sizzling roadhouse shuffle of "Maydell," and the breathtaking virtuosity on tracks that range from the intimate acoustic slide dialog of "Old Friend" to the trademark extended jam "Instrumental Illness," a burnin' twelve-minute marathon. There’s also an inspired blues version of the Rolling Stones’ “Heart of Stone,” which the Allman Brothers Band definitely put their stamp on.

Gregg Allman describes "Hittin' the Note" as "the best album we've made since Eat a Peach.” For Media Reviews of "Hittin' the Note" click here.

The CD was released March 18 on the band's own Peach Records in partnership with Sanctuary Records, and is available in stores everywhere and at the Beacon shows.(for more information see the press release below)

Michael Springer’s vacation starts on Monday. As usual, though, he won’t be traveling far from his home in Valley Stream, Long Island. For most of the next three weeks, he and his wife will be spending their evenings in Manhattan, taking part in one of the city’s most curious rites of spring: the Allman Brothers Band’s annual run of shows at the Beacon Theater.

Since 1989 the Allman band has played at the Beacon 175 times — and Mr. Springer, 51, has been at every concert. This month he’ll return (to the same seat, next to the lighting board) for 15 more shows as the band settles into the newly refurbished Beacon through March 28.

“My boss thinks I’m out of my mind,” said Mr. Springer, who works at an audio and video company and proposed to his wife during one of the 2005 shows. “I end up taking my vacation a few blocks from where I work. But year after year they continue to amaze me.”

Five years ago Butch Trucks had a vision of how the Internet could bring the live concert experience into people's homes around the world, expanding the audience of a live concert to many thousands of music-loving fans.

But this would be more than just another streaming video service that didn't care about the content itself – it would be an extended community that felt that same magical bond that comes over a crowd during that roar of approval after a soaring solo.

Butch's vision was right on – but the technology at the time was limited, and it has taken enormous patience and persistence to get to the point where the experience could match the dream – but now, (sfx: huge drum roll!!) sisters and brothers, Moogis has arrived!!!

Concert Preview: GREGG ALLMAN & Friends
SENECA ALLEGANY CASINO
Saturday January 10th
MIDNIGHT RIDER…..As the clock struck twelve on New Year’ s Eve it marked the 40th anniversary of the immortal mythology of the ALLMAN BROTHERS BAND. Florida bred Southern kin GREGG and DUANE ALLMAN fused the Jam Base Rhythm & Blues Rock Band in 1969; leaving an enduring imprint in the annals of American Music with their inspired improvisational vision spanning their dynamic four decade career.
While tragedy would rear it’s ugly head for the first of many times with the untimely death of DUANE ALLMAN on October 29, 1971; younger brother GREGG would keep the Brotherhood alive through thick and thin as the ABB reached the summit of superstardom with their induction to the Rock ‘n’ Roll Hall of Fame in 1995.

GREGG ALLMAN, who just turned 61 in December, is a consummate Rock ‘n’ Roll Road Warrior continuing to tour full-throttle, cascading his soulful gritty voice from behind his patented Hammond B-3 throne navigating the “Dreams” he and DUANE envisioned.
Rolling Stone Magazine recently recognized GREGG ALLMAN as one of the Top 100 Singers of All Time; in the article SHERYL CROW is quoted as saying, “Even in his earliest recordings he sounded like he’d already lived a thousand lifetimes”

The GREGG ALLMAN & Friends tour will be spreading some holiday cheer at the Seneca Allegany Casino this Saturday Night. It’s a safe bet that this band of accomplished musicians will be “Playing Up a Storm”, so if you have one more silver dollar left from the holidays this is one show you won’t want to miss.

The Rock Rapport had the honor to once again speak with GREGG ALLMAN from his home in Georgia as he was preparing to celebrate the Christmas season with his family before heading out on the road.
Ross CAT- Thanks so much for taking time out for the Rock Rapport. First off GREGG we’re glad to hear that you’re enjoying a full recovery from you’re various ailments throughout 2008.

GREGG- I’m feeling great and lookin forward to gettin back out with some of my old friends for this holiday tour. I just had some melanoma spots removed from the sun but they were benign so I’m sporting a couple of shiners. Now that you mention it 2008 did kick my ass but I’m a survivor, I beat the Hep C and finally took care of my sciatic nerve in my leg, after all that I’m feelin great.

Gregg Allman gave a quick deep chuckle, when asked how many generations of people he sees in the crowd at an appearance by the Allman Brothers Band.

"Probably three," he said. "We see these old hippies (that are) bald-headed on top, but around the sides'll be all real long, down to their shoulders. And they'll have a kid on their shoulders, a little toddler."

"Whereas it used to be, 'Hey man, would you sign this for my kid?' Now it's 'Would you sign this for my Dad?' Ohhhh -- that used to be a hard one to take, but I kind of took in my stride."

The three-generation rule probably will hold on Wednesday, when the Allman Brothers Band plays The Amphitheater at The Wharf in Orange Beach along with Phil Lesh & Friends.

Given that Lesh made his name as the bassist for the Grateful Dead, it's probably safe to say that he brings multiple generations to the party as well.

Allman said he definitely feels that Lesh brings in a different crowd, albeit one that generally appreciates both groups.

"I always recommend that percussionists learn to read music if they want to enhance their career. If they can read and get a job done quickly and efficiently, they're going to work."
